General Comments:

I have owned many Ford Products. I have had 7 Taurus sedans without any problems, 2 Aero Stars 4w Drive, no problems. However, the 1995 Windstar was nothing, but head aches and a money pit.. Luckily, I have the skill to repair most of these items. Still the parts are expensive and time consuming to replace. I agree everyone this Model Year Van was poorly engineered. The 3.8 engines on any Ford has a serious head gasket problem. I think Ford should recall all there cars or give the owners a deal trading these 95 Windstars in. The 1995 windstar surely lives of the the Ford initials; Find On Road Dead.

For all of you you have had the ABS light come on and stay on, have the tires balanced. I know it sounds simple, but it will probably fix most of everyones issues. We had the ABS light and the parking brake on all the time and we had bad vibration in the front end. We decide to take it in to get an alignment. The mechanic said all it needed was a balance. We got the balance and the lights went out also. Problem fixed? So far so good.

1995 Ford Windstar LX from North America

Faults:

I have an 1995 Ford Windstar Van. The head gasket blew and I had to have it repaired. I had a problem with the automatic suspension system (the car would malfunction and back side of the van would hang down). I had the automatic suspension replaced with a standard suspension kit. I also had a problem with the "door ajar" light staying on. WD-40 corrected the problem.

I had a problem with the "check engine" light coming on and staying on. I upgraded the type of gas that I put in the car from standard grade to mid-grade. I sometimes even use premium grade gasoline. In addition, I add a gas additive to the fuel tank every time I fill up (carburetor cleaner, fuel injector cleaner). This has eliminated the problem with the check engine light coming on.

1995 Ford Windstar GL 3.8 Liter fuel injected V6 from North America

Summary:

Comfortable drives better at 70 MPH than at 40 MPH

Faults:

The brake lines rusted out. the master cylinder went at 65,000. The head gasket blew out at 70,000. Trans blew four times, covered under warranty, once not under warranty. at 100,000 the trans slipped severely in first gear eventually blowing first gear, was able to drive van by starting out in second and shifting into drive about 35MPH. At 110,000, I got tired of having to drive it like this so I took it to a performance shop owned by my cousin hand had the trans removed and gutted and rebuilt with racing parts. This rebuilt shifts quick and firm with no slipping. In December 2005 as I was backing out of the garage I noticed that It was leaking Antifreeze, the radiator had a hole in it and had to be replaced a $600.00

General Comments:

Good daily driver, but some major problems that needed to be fixed. I just purchased a used 2005 Ford Freestar, and I will only drive the 1995 Windstar on the highway because it is more comfortable than the Freestar on road trips.

Summary:

Disapointed

Faults:

Head gasket blew at 16500kms.

General Comments:

I agree with previous comments regarding Ford not responding to this problem. I have always thought Ford was a decent reputable company. Not anymore!! Don't buy a 1995 Windstar. You'll be sorry.
