1992 Geo Metro 1.0L from North America

Summary:

Cheap on everything, but MAN is it tough!

Faults:

When it rained, the engine would only work on 2 cylinder, if not 1.

Radio cassette too fast, music distorted.

Wheel Bearing fails often.

Very cheaply made.

Engine blew, amateur owner (not me) kept pedal to the metal when cold start to make it warm up faster (not me, I swear).

Low trunk space.

Low space, period.

General Comments:

READ THE FOLLOWING, YOU WON'T BELIEVE IT, BUT I SWEAR, IT'S TRUE!!!

Though everyone I know (including me) hates this car, and it is extremely cheaply done, it has a good point to it, because it's so cheaply assembled, a loader rolled over the front right corner... it was back on the road the very next day!!! The shaft just poped out as well as the front right wheel support, and the bumper just poped out (did they use screws at all to make this car?) even the light still works, A LOADER PASSED ON IT!!!

It's very cheap on gas, i'll give it that, and we hit the STUNNING high speed OF... 150kph, downhill. Good gas mileage, pathetic speed.

But at least it got us where we wanted to go... most of the time.

1992 Geo Metro 1.0 from North America

Summary:

Best car of the 20+ I've ever owned

Faults:

Usual stuff. A water pump at 120,000 miles, and a transmission flush at 125,000.

Seats have become flatened (duh!).

Otherwise, just brakes and oil changes.

General Comments:

IMPORTANT! Do yuor own oil changes, if possible, and use only synthetic or semi-synthetic oil. It makes a huge difference in engine noise and smoother running.

El Cheapo Wal-Mart 155X12 tires are fine for the Northwest weather, wet and warm.

My son was 4 when we bought the car, and hopes to pass it on to his kids.

I do agree. The Geo Metro is the most amazing car I have ever owned. I own both a 1992 and a 1993 metro. I would. not trade them for the world. The have to be the most reliable cars maybe except for the 30,000 dollar plus cars, but then when something does go wrong with a high dollar car it is virtually unaffordable. The Geo Metro in definitely underrated. Someone needs to recognize the greatness and awesomeness of these automobiles. They are truly enjoyable.

I have a 1992 Geo Metro and bought it brand new back in 1992. It has over 100,000 miles on it. The engine finally just started showing a lot of signs of wear, so instead of selling it or getting rid of it...I'm going to rebuild the engine. It is the best car that I have ever owned. It made many trips from NY to NC. I had a lot of memories in that car and plan on having many more. It was bought to have as a dependable car to get back and forth to work with... but it turned out to be so much more. I'll have this car forever. I love you Metro!!
