1992 Geo Metro LSI Convertible 1.0 3 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Reliable runabout

Faults:

Air-conditioning had to be recharged @ 82,000 miles.

Rear window has cracked where it folds.

Muffler has came loose.

Driver's side door handle broke.

Top leaks water badly.

General Comments:

Very reliable car. Made cheaply though. Course that's what these cars are - cheap transportation, so you can't expect much from them.

Great on gas even with an automatic. Very slow though, no power at all, engine runs at extreme RPM's on the interstate.

Would be a lot better with power steering.

I agree that the Geo Metro Hatchback should have power steering. I have finally realized with my 1992 Geo Metro Hatcback that to get up hills with the Geo I put it in second gear while going up the hill, then back in drive once I'm up the hill completely.

Summary:

Powerless car, very reliable though

Faults:

Rear window split.

General Comments:

I've been disappointed with this car, even though I hate to say that because I've wanted one of these cars for a long time.

There is NO acceleration at all, EVERYTHING can pass you.

Top leaks more than you would think it would.

A/C pulls the engine down so much that you can't really run it unless you are already in motion before you switch it on.

So far it's been really reliable. Engine winds out at extreme RPM on interstate. Gas mileage is very good, but extremely poor with the A/C running.

1992 Geo Metro Hatchback 1.0 liter from North America

Summary:

If properly maintained, this car will go far!

Faults:

The car is running on 2 cylinders. I'm replacing the engine soon.

I needed to replace the alternator.

I replaced the front brakes and rotors.

I replaced the front control arm.

I've had a hard time with wipers, and the driver's side wiper pops out of the socket.

General Comments:

I am driving this car on 2 cylinders. When I bought the car it only had 2 cylinders, so it has gone at least 25,000kms (50,000 miles) on 2 cylinders with few problems (it's much slower).

This car is great. It's very cheap to run, and it's pretty comfortable considering I'm a 6'2, 340lb man.

If maintained properly, this car will be perfect for singles, or for very small families who need a 2nd car.

I have a Geo Metro hatchback 1.0 3 cylinder that I bought for $175.00 from some guy who was moving. It leaked oil and believe it or not, ran on one cylinder. You had to floor the gas for 5 seconds to start it it up. But it always got me there.

Then one day it lost so much power I couldn't even go up a hill in first. The head gasket blew and 2 valves burnt holes in them, with new head gasket, rod bearings, Bosch Platinum 4 spark plugs (recommendable but $5.99 a piece), wires, air filter, oil filter, all new seals, new valves etc.

That car performed with at least 65 to 70 horsepower and it was all stock, it will spin the tires up to second, not bad for a 3.

Summary:

Gas saver and very reliable

Faults:

Nothing yet...

General Comments:

Pretty good car, I know several people have said that this was plenty of power, but I would like a bit more with my next car. It's just that when I can't keep up with traffic it kinda makes me ill.

It's a nice looking car and I do believe that it might be a collectors item one day considering there weren't many made.

1992 Geo Metro LSI Convertible 1.0 from North America

Summary:

Top down fun!

Faults:

Driver's side door is sticking.

Rear shocks need to be replaced.

General Comments:

Great little eye catcher.

I don't like the fact that I feel like I'm sitting on the ground though.

Has enough power to push the car up to about 40 mph, but after that it's starting to struggle. Gas mileage is great though.
