1995 Geo Prizm LSI 1.8 from North America

Summary:

Great gas saver, VERY RELIABLE!!!

Faults:

Replaced front brakes at 155K.

The distributor went out at 160K.

The right inner CV joint was replaced at 182K.

Clutch is starting to slip (original clutch I believe).

Several interior plastics have broken such as the door handle, cup holder, air vents.

General Comments:

I bought this car from a friend and had no idea that I got such a gem! There is nothing super special about the car, several plastics in the interior have broken, but the Toyota engine and drive train are bulletproof.

I average 32 miles per gallon with a mixture of HWY and CITY driving. On a trip to the east coast last summer (3000 miles round trip) I averaged 40 mpg!! I have thought about buying a newer car, but I just can't justify getting rid of this car. IT IS A GREAT CAR!

1995 Geo Prizm LSi 1.8 I4 from North America

Summary:

Steady, reliable transportation on a budget

Faults:

So far, besides the basic tires, brake pads, oil changes, and other fluid fills, the only thing that has gone wrong with this car is a minor power steering leak that I keep an eye on and fill from time to time.

General Comments:

I bought this for my wife in 2002. I had looked for something that had AC, a good stereo, and maybe Cruise control for $2000ish, and wound up buying this for $2150. It didn't have cruise, the stereo was AM/FM (have since put CD player in it) and the paint was faded, body is a little wavy in spots, but just one drive and I was hooked.

It doesn't have a lot of power, but it is smooth. It gets me 30mpg, so I'm pretty happy with lower power, anyway. At highway speeds it starts to get a little noisy, but it's not something that will make your ears bleed.

The seats are comfy for me or my wife. The gearbox shifts easily, one finger easy. The trunk, while not big, is big enough for groceries or the weekend getaway. Back seat doesn't have bad room, either. The pass-through between the two could be bigger, however.

This has been a really nice car for me, and will probably make my next car a Geo/Toyota as well.

1995 Geo Prizm 1.6 from North America

Summary:

Bullet proof

Faults:

Replaced transmission at 252,000 miles. engine is still orig. as of 399,000 miles. never rebuilt. lost first starter at 159,000 miles-that was the first problem ever with the car. it has been a great car for what I do. most of the work done on it has been things that eventually wore out and most of that was after 275,000 miles and really not too much then. Fuel pump died at 350,000 or around there. yes it REALLY has 399,000 miles!

General Comments:

399,000 miles and still running as of 5/24/2008. original engine. never rebuilt. enough said!

1995 Geo Prizm Base 1.6 liter twin cam from North America

Summary:

Buy one if you want reliability!!!

Faults:

Absolutely nothing mechanically.

A few cosmetics, handle broken passenger, some plastic, but not complaining or anything.

General Comments:

This car is DEAD RELIABLE, I bought it for only $950 from the previous owner, just needed brakes and a tune up. There was some body damage, didn't look good, but surely made up in reliability!

I can say that if you get this car, you will have a good car to depend on for a long time. I've already had mine for 2 years, I am still a college student and the gas mileage is excellent (29-32) depending on your driving habits.

I opted for a 5 Speed (never likes auto) and it does have excellent torque and decent power for a small car, has no frills and some people may find it boring to drive, but this car will get you anywhere besides point A and B!

Update:

For 4 years dragged this car since 2006!!! NO PROBLEMS!! Just maintenance, a new windshield (my fault) and strut spring with tires, and also brakes.

This car starts everyday, never left me stranded, doesn't overheat or burn any oil!!

It's amazing because I never intended to keep the car for this long!! I am going to hang on to the car until it gets wrecked or a meteor hits it!

Current mileage 208K+.
