1991 Geo Storm 1.8? from North America

Summary:

This car is perfect for a college student, but ditch it before it gets too late

Faults:

The car ran excellent for the first three years I had it. Then I had two blown head gaskets in the span of five months, a leak in the radiator, and a tendency to burn oil. It also has undergone a serious loss in power.

General Comments:

A total stranger came up to me a few months ago and asked me how many miles I had on the car. When I told him nearly 100,000 he told me to get rid of it. It had run so well in the past so I didn't take his advice. I wish I had.

I bought my Geo Storm off a friend of mine in 1998, it had some problems but I put the money and time into taking care of this car that I have turned it into a treasure. If you have had problems with yours, it seems like you haven't taken good care of it since you bought it.

My car has 130,000 miles on it and I bought it with 112,000 miles and it is still running as strong as ever and still getting the same great gas mileage it has been since it came off the show room floor. Regular maintenance and tune ups are a necessity to having a good car!!!

I bought a Geo-Storm last year with 162,000 miles on it for a meager $1200. I changed the timing belt and did some cosmetic touch up, it runs great to date and never even seems like it's going to stop. I have 175000 on it right now!

It seems that Storm owners feel that cheap cars such as their's don't need any maintenance. This is not true, I don't take excellent care of mine by any stretch of the imagination, but tune ups every now and then and changing the oil are a must! Perhaps you've kept up with this and in that case I'm at a loss, but my Storm with 133,000 miles gives me little trouble. However, that's just my experience...

1991 Geo Storm 2+2 Coupe 1.6 SOHC 12 valve from North America

1991 Geo Storm 1.4? from North America

Summary:

Overall a good car

Faults:

Alternator, muffler.

General Comments:

Runs well, gets decent gas mileage. The back seat is kind of small, tall or average height riders are likely to hit their heads (so not a car to use if driving friends to far places).

1991 Geo Storm 1.4 liter from North America

Summary:

Zarconian coupe made of plastic, don't leave in sun!

Faults:

Various problems:

Oil and steering fluid leakage.

Brake meltdown (not totally cars fault).

Wearing timing belt.

Wearing clutch.

General Comments:

The Geo Storm definitely has its downfalls (such as the various mechanical problems and the padded contortion chamber that some call a back seat), however, its novel body design and top notch fuel efficiency are quite admirable. I enjoy owning it, and would recommend it as a relatively inexpensive and reliable automobile.

1991 Geo Storm LSi 1.8? from North America

Faults:

Well it seems to like to go through engines pretty well. This is my second one with only 120,569 miles, the coil tends to like to go out quite a bit, the A/C went out.

General Comments:

A pretty decent car, if it was more reliable. There is no room in the back, I wouldn't recommend anyone sitting back there. Oh and the red paint fades extremely fast.

GSi, not LSi. The LSi trim was on the Geo Metro. YUCK!
