1999 Honda Civic LX from North America

Summary:

A good buy for the money

Faults:

Cd player and radio "malfunctioned" and had to be completely replaced after 1 year (covered under warranty).

Windshield wipers had to be replaced prematurely.

Brakes wear easily.

General Comments:

Although this is a very reliable car that is pretty comfortable, this is definitely not a winter vehicle. The car does terrible in the snow. The car rides very smoothly and is very quick, but is pretty noisy at high speeds.

I'm general satisfied with my 1999 Honda Civic LX. It handles well and is comfortable. On the down side, although the EPA (and Honda) gives mileage figures as 32 (City) and 38 (Highway, my usual mileage is 18 to 22 (City) and 35-38 (Hihway) - not what's advertised - even after replacing of plugs and a tuneup.

The radio leaves lots to be desired. Fidelity is poor, it drifts, and sensitivity is poor.

I am very happy with my '99 civic LX. Lately I have added performance parts such as a K&N air filter and Bosch Platinum 4 spark plugs. I have also added accessories such as Altezza tailights, Carbine security system with automatic locks, half bra for the front end, and blue emblems for the front and rear of the car. Soon I will be adding 16" five spoke racing rims with a lower profile tire...205/40's I believe. The only problem I wish I didn't have with the thing is it sucks in the winter. it doesn't handle the snow very well at all. But this is a small price to pay when it looks so good in the summer.

Just responding to the previous comment regarding gas mileage.

I have a 1999 LX and the lowest mileage I have measured between fill-ups is 33. I have averaged 37 since owning the vehicle and have had over 42 mpg on two consecutive fill-ups while driving very conservatively.

I have been very happy with it.

1999 Honda Civic Type-R Hatchback 1.6 SOHC V-TEC from North America

Summary:

So many horses for such a little hatchback!

Faults:

Nothing!

General Comments:

A fanastic car that's only found in Japan. This little hatchback provides 160 horses and is truly a one of a kind hatch! Also the body frame is light and the 160 horses make this hatch literally fly!

Civic's Type-Rs have a 1.6 DOHC and 180 bhp.

11th Dec 2000, 10:09

To be precise, the B16B 1.6 Dohc engine is pumping out 185bhp! Revs to infinity though!

Notice the guy says his engine is 1.6 SOHC VTEC. The engines that put out 160 HP where DOHC VTEC. I would guess this guy "thinks" he has 160 HP under the hood.

1999 Honda Civic SE (Special Edition) 1.6 Litre from North America

Summary:

A classy reliable car with great features at a bargain price

Faults:

Nothing at all. Except there is a slight wind noise even when all the windows are rolled up.

General Comments:

The ride is smooth, the gas mileage is great, its pick up is decent when passing someone, and the comfort is good. The trunk has good space, the only downfall would be 1) the radio it came with which I replaced with something better and 2) the fact it does not come with an armrest on the drivers side. Other than those 2 minor details, it's the best car yet.

I agree with comments, however I must say the clear coat is peeling off from my 1999 Honda Civic SP.

1999 Honda Civic LS 1.5 VTEC from UK and Ireland

Summary:

No one will see you coming or going in this car

Faults:

Rear wiper blade needed changing prematurely.

Sometimes won't start, just keeps ticking over.

Engine would rev to about 2000 RPM when started in the morning when idle.

General Comments:

Generally a comfortable car, quite reliable, not bad performance for a 1.5, wish I didn't get leather seats, should have got sport seats!

Shame performance parts from the dealer are so overpriced!!!

1999 Honda Civic ESi 1.6 VTEC petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Absolutely nothing except normal wear and tear (1 exhaust back box in 2 years).

General Comments:

Very nice car to drive, like all Hondas it needs high revs to get the best out of its performance. Slightly bland inside but solidly put together.

My only gripe is insurance costs, insurance group 14-15 the same as a Golf GTI!!
