2001 Honda Civic LX 1.7 from North America

Summary:

Silver Bullet Civic!!!

Faults:

I've owned the car for a month now.

My gas gauge was showing half for 4 days, I thought I was getting excellent gas mileage, and out of the blue, it went to E and the low fuel indicator light came on. It scared me. I filled up. It did that again for 3 days, and went to E. I filled up. I took it to the dealership, found a bad sending system in fuel tank, dealer replaced that, under warranty.

Front passenger window was rolling up very slow. It stopped on me 3 times. Dealer replaced the regulator, under warranty.

Front passenger door, when it's opened, interior light does not come on. But all other 3 doors, it worked fine. Dealer replaced, under warranty.

According to Carfax, my car has never been wrecked. I think someone who had the car before me must have slammed the door hard or that side has been hit, but owner replaced with their own money.

General Comments:

So far, I love this car. I still miss my 1998 Honda Civic HX. But I've only had this car for a month, still lots more to go, hopefully it'll be as reliable as my old one. I named it SILVER BULLET.

Lack of center armrest.

Brrr... COLD air conditioner.

No keyless remote. :- (But am getting an aftermarket one.

I think the front seats in my 98 Civic were better.

2001 Honda Civic EX 1.7 VTEC from North America

Summary:

Dependable transportation

Faults:

I have never performed any unscheduled service on this car.

Replaced the timing belt per maintenance schedule at 90000 miles. Honda should follow the current trend and replace timing belts with chains to eliminate the need for belt replacement.

General Comments:

This car has been totally reliable. It is fun to drive, but not very comfortable for a large person. It has good power, and the moonroof is a must.

This is my 6th Honda. The first, a 1973 Civic, got considerable better fuel mileage at 39 mpg highway. This car does 34-38 mpg highway. If fact, the gas mileage has somewhat decreased over the years, and the performance doesn't seem much better, although I know emissions are much better.

2001 Honda Civic EX Coupe 1.7 liter from North America

Summary:

I am not impressed with Honda products, they're not as good as they say they are

Faults:

The automatic transmission failed after 80,000 miles and to be overhauled. Very unusual for a Japanese brand. I've always had Nissan and Toyotas, and have not had any problems. This is my first Honda and I am very dissapointed with their product. And to think it is an EX. The civic has had a lot of problems and I just try to ignore it like:

The driver's seat rocks back and forth.

There is a squeeking noise in the right rear side of the car and you can hear it from inside when the car is running.

The electrical wiring burned out on the headlight system, but replace under warranty. Good Dealer-Gillman Honda.

The engine knocks hard during a cold start and you hear a loud thud from the engine compartment.

Both door actuators have failed and needed a costly replacement.

There are other minor stuff that are too tedious to list, but it's one problem after another.

I still have a 91 Nissan Pathfinder with 142,000 miles, a 91 Toyota Celica with 92,000 miles, and still have not had any of the civic's problems. So the moral of the story is 'Don"t buy another Honda product, you'll be sorry!!! I am not buying a Honda product again ever. Their product quality and reliability really have become bad and they are not honest about it. I just bought a 2004 Infinit G35 and a 2005 350Z and they're great cars.

I agree with the review. I too am not impressed that much with the Honda. It's the first one I have owned and I purchased a 2000 civic coupe ex and I really don't like it. I want to go back to my Ford Explorer Sport. There is no room in this car whatsoever and the car came pre-certified and within the first week trouble with the exhaust. Took it back to the shop 3 times and still have the same problem. Now there is a rattling noise coming from the rear and I am ready to get rid of this car and have only had it 3 months! Overall... Not impressed.
