2001 Honda Civic LX 1.7 Non-Vtec from North America

Summary:

Economical and Reliable

Faults:

Makes a horrible vibration/loud sound from the engine compartment when driving in heavy rain or through big puddles.

Front suspension makes noise when cornering.

Clutch creaks, other pedals squeak.

Lots of little squeaks and rattles when going over bumps. Honestly, though, what other economy car isn't like this as well. You get what you pay for.

General Comments:

The car gets excellent gas mileage and is very economical.

Performance is so-so. I would be dangerous if the car had an automatic.

Low on equipment. Car does not have key-less entry or CD player.

Interior is attractive, but materials seem cheap.

Front seats are comfortable, but room is limited for taller individuals like myself.

Overall I like the car. I will be buying a vehicle with more room and more power for my next car. I need it for my growing family.

2001 Honda Civic LX CPE. 1.7 4 cylinder. from North America

Summary:

Honda's favorite, and student favorite

Faults:

No problems.

General Comments:

It's been trouble free since brand new. My 2000 Ford Focus was garbage, but the Civic is impressive. Believe me, I plan on keeping it for a while longer. The Civic is perfect for first time drivers, and is a blessing for any parent wanting their college student to drive a very safe and reliable car that is great on gas, and is low on insurance costs. You got to have a Civic.

2001 Honda Civic LX 1.7 from North America

Summary:

Of course, it's a Honda!

Faults:

Nothing so far.

General Comments:

I have put about 25,000 miles in 7 months, nothing wrong with the car so far.

Excellent handling and awesome MPG! My friend took the turn to drive and he was very impressed with the MPG that my car was getting! A month later, he asked me if he could borrow my car to go on a 400 miles trip one way, meaning 800 miles both ways because his 91 Nissan 240SX isn't getting the as good MPG as I'm getting on mine, of course, my answer was NO!!!

This is my second Honda and hope to own another Honda after this one dies (if it will ever die!)

2001 Honda Civic LX-G 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Good solid car!

Faults:

Front struts went very early replaced by dealer.

Broken CV joint (dealer caused, dealer repaired)

Alternator just went, covered under extended warranty

Replaced original tires after 4 years of service

Paint has faded badly.

General Comments:

OK on gas mostly city driving.

Wife drives the car and she likes it.

No power, but that's not what we got it for so it's a none issue

I'd buy another Honda product and in fact I already have.

Have only had two mishaps at the dealership level, which when questioned they fessed up to and replaced or repaired.

Civics are the bottom end cars for Honda and in my opinion are still better built then compared entry level North American cars. My Civic was assembled in Canada.

We owned a Ford product from new and by the time we had driven it the same 80000 km's it had been in the shop for warrenty work several times a year. In fact it was so bad its the reason we switched to Honda

2001 Honda Civic LX from North America

Summary:

Lemon - should have been recalled

Faults:

Transmission completely replaced - under warranty.

A/C condenser and associated parts need to be replaced - NOT under warranty.

Radiator has a crack in it - NOT under warranty.

General Comments:

For a car with just under 30000 miles, too much has gone wrong, too soon! The dealer doesn't even want to deal with it anymore. They likely realize it is a lemon and are feeling guilty for having sold it in the first place and now charging so much to keep it running. So much for the "Certified" program, it's useless!

2001 Honda Civic EX 1.7L from North America

Summary:

Disappointed by all the repairs and costs

Faults:

While under warranty, the following was repaired:

1. My A/C clutch was replaced within the 1st year by my dealer.

2. Voltage regulator replaced (had something to do with shifting gears on an automatic transmission). Car was towed within 1st year for the repair.

3. Front struts replaced within 1st year.

4. Steering alignment was off after strut repair. Dealership tried to blame it on me; told me the standard warranty did not cover the cost. Finally, I convinced them it was their technician's fault, and had it fixed for free.

5. CD player would not play due to an electrical problem when it had 5,000 miles. Fixed under warranty.

6. Nuisance noise / metallic vibrating noise from the driver's side was never found, even after the dealership tried to find it 5 times.

7. Found faded paint spots on the trunk of the car after I had it for 1 week. Warranty covered the repair.

After the 3 year warranty expired:

1. Struts went out again at 40,000 miles. I hear a thumping/rattling noise when making turns and going over bumps.

2. CD player went out right after the warranty expired within a month.

3. A/C condenser along with contaminated filter replaced for nearly $1000 at 49,000 miles. Found a crack on the condenser. Dealership was going to charge more for repair. Took it to an A/C specialist this time.

4. Tried to replace the air filter first time as recommended by the manual. Air filter plastic cover would not come off, because a bolt was stripped while trying to loosen it. Had to cut out the stripped bolt to replace the air filter. This is a common problem in this car, because the filter cover is plastic with metal bolts.

5. Front dash board and driver side have lots of nuisance noises. While under the warranty period, after the dealer had failed 5 times to find the source of a metallic vibrating noise, the panels became loose. My A/C vents will not stay in place, because they are now too loose.

6. Fan belt loose after 40,000 miles. It screeches after starting my car. The problem seems to come and go.

General Comments:

Try not to take the car back to the dealer for repairs if possible. They only know how to sell cars, not fix them. Plus repairs are at a premium price.

The Honda dealership did a poor job trying to fix my car, and even created more problems for me. There are other trustworthy repair shops are out there, that will charge a lot less, and also guarantee the parts and labor.
