2006 Honda Civic EX 1.8 vtec from North America

Summary:

It is what it is, a Honda, and I think it will serve me well

Faults:

Nothing. so far, I just got it. I will keep you updated.

General Comments:

OK, it is slow real slow, compared to my 2000 VR6 Jetta, but I did not buy this car for speed, I bought it for fuel efficiency, which is outstanding.

The interior is nice, but odd. I feel like I'm going to fly away rather than drive. The interior is spacious.

The turning radius could be better.

Side visibility is poor; I think I'm just not used to it yet however.

The one thing I really hate about this car so far is the clutch. It is real short and weak, again, I just need to get used to it.

Handles great on the highway for a Honda. Handling on the highway is somewhat "European like", I never owned a Honda before, but hope it will live up to the reliability that is expected from Honda.

The MP3 player and aux input are cool. Lots of storage space, speakers are nothing great, but sufficient.

It is what it is, a Honda, and I think it will serve me well. I will keep adding updates for as long as I own this car.

2006 Honda Civic LX from North America

Summary:

So far, so good

Faults:

I love my car. It is perfect for me right now.

I have had the car since June 2006 (7 months) and within the past couple months I have found that the engine is not turning over properly all the time. I brought it back to the dealership and I was told to click the key once and wait 3-5 seconds to allow the pressure to build up and then start the engine. The counter clerk told me I should never have this problem again.

Other than that, the battery and fuel injection were OK. This morning my car actually stalled immediately when I tried to start it. I tried to research the problem, but it doesn't seem like this is a common problem with Honda Civics.

General Comments:

I like the dashboard. I don't care that other people say, it's pretty neat. The headrest is uncomfortable at first, but I have adapted. The trunk is big, and gas mileage is pretty good. I knew going into the purchase that the 30/40 mpg they advertise would be slightly worse in new england with rough road conditions and extreme climates. I do wish it had a little more pick up. My old Sunfire, which I hated had a lot of pep... the Civic doesn't have so much.

2006 Honda Civic VTI-L 1.8 Litre petrol from Australia and New Zealand

Faults:

Nothing so far, although it has not done many kilometres. From what I have read about Honda's, we anticipate problem free motoring though.

General Comments:

For a four cylinder car, it is:

-Very roomy.

-Has a great dash layout, good ergonomics.

-The standard features are excellent. Has climate control, cruise control, ABS, Air Bags, just to name a few.

-The 5 speed Auto is a pleasure. Because of the extra gears, the car is quick off the mark, yet the 5th gear will ensure that even at 110km's per hour, the engine is doing only 2000 rpm.

-The gearbox stays in low gear on steep downgrades. Causes the engine to rev to about 3000 to 4000 rpm and takes a while to get used to, but provides excellent compression braking.

-Ride and road noise is somewhat harsh, but overall value for money and comfort makes this car a worthwhile purchase and you will be willing to “put up” with these minor things.

-If you are buying a VTI-L model or above, be warned, you can’t have seat covers so make sure you get at least fabric protection as part of the after sales purchases.

-Economy during run in period was about 6.5 Litres per 100 Km. Apparently this will get even better.

In regards to my original review, I have now done 8500 km's and the car has been on the road 10 months. Fuel economy has improved and I am now getting under 6 Litres per 100kms on the Highway.

Only one minor issue has developed: The boot hinges have become squeaky when opening the boot. I will ask the Honda dealer to lubricate them at the next service.

Other than that, no other problems have developed.
