2006 Honda Civic VTI-L from Australia and New Zealand - Comments

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing so far, although it has not done many kilometres. From what I have read about Honda's, we anticipate problem free motoring though.

General comments?

For a four cylinder car, it is:

-Very roomy.

-Has a great dash layout, good ergonomics.

-The standard features are excellent. Has climate control, cruise control, ABS, Air Bags, just to name a few.

-The 5 speed Auto is a pleasure. Because of the extra gears, the car is quick off the mark, yet the 5th gear will ensure that even at 110km's per hour, the engine is doing only 2000 rpm.

-The gearbox stays in low gear on steep downgrades. Causes the engine to rev to about 3000 to 4000 rpm and takes a while to get used to, but provides excellent compression braking.

-Ride and road noise is somewhat harsh, but overall value for money and comfort makes this car a worthwhile purchase and you will be willing to “put up” with these minor things.

-If you are buying a VTI-L model or above, be warned, you can’t have seat covers so make sure you get at least fabric protection as part of the after sales purchases.

-Economy during run in period was about 6.5 Litres per 100 Km. Apparently this will get even better.

In regards to my original review, I have now done 8500 km's and the car has been on the road 10 months. Fuel economy has improved and I am now getting under 6 Litres per 100kms on the Highway.

Only one minor issue has developed: The boot hinges have become squeaky when opening the boot. I will ask the Honda dealer to lubricate them at the next service.

Other than that, no other problems have developed.
