1989 Honda CRX Si review from North America
"A true classic in which we will never see the likes of again"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Aside from a muffler replacement and some brake pads, the only thing I did to the car was replace the clutch around 170,000 km.
General comments?
This was my first car that I used as a daily driver. I bought it from a girl who was traveling. It was parked in here parents driveway for a year and she needed money. I paid $3,800 for the car when it was 10 years old with 144,000 km. Not bad. The car was in excellent condition. Bone stock with a flawless interior and only miner scratches on the body.
I used the car to go to and from school which was about 30km (20 miles) in each direction. I regularly put on 500 + km (300 miles) every week. I put the recommended premium gas in it, when it cost less than half of what it costs now, and that was my only expense. My mom had a 93 DX hatch back with the 1.5 motor, my CRX ran circles around that thing. It was crazy how much more performance there was. 108 HP moving 2000 lbs, not too bad. I did a lot of road trips one summer and the car easily cruised at 170 km/h (105 mph). I sold it 2 1/2 years later for $3,500 and about 60,000 km more.
You will never be able to find an untouched ex. these days but who know, there might be an old lady with a 91 Si in here garage with 50,000km.....
