2000 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5 V6 from North America

Summary:

The all around best minivan

Faults:

EGR system clogged.

Transmission broke at 92,000 miles.

Clock light burned out, but replaced for $3.

General Comments:

This minivan drives and handles like a competent car. The turning radius in amazingly small for a long wheelbase vehicle, thus is is fairly easy to park. Emergency handling and braking is excellent. Power is more than adequate.

Fuel economy is surprisingly good for such a roomy vehicle. I measure about 25 mpg on interstate trips and 20 mpg around town.

Road noise is intrusive on rougher highways and can be annoying on long trips. I understand newer Odysseys are quieter.

Seating, roominess and ease of re-configuring are all excellent. There is plenty of room behind the 3rd seat.

2000 Honda Odyssey EX Gas from North America

Summary:

Excellent

Faults:

The Honda Odyssey has had a few power sliding door problems. The sensitivity of the door latch had to be adjusted by the dealer once.

Also, my wife had the car jump started due to leaving the lights on, resulting in the power doors not working any more. She turned on an off the power door master switch on the dash above the door open/close buttons, but the door would not work. I reset the door memory by pulling fuse 13 out of the fuse box for two minutes, but the doors still would not work. It turned out that she did not turn the door master switch back on, and that is why the doors would not work after the memory reset (pulling fuse 13 on the passenger fuse box). Everything is working well now, and we are very happy with the vehicle.

If you want more details on door problems, read post #4578 titled "Update: No Power to Sliding Door."

General Comments:

The Honda Odyssey has been very reliable and comfortable for traveling and carting the kids around town.

The vehicle has lots of power without compromising fuel economy. The car consistently gets 26 MPG on the highway with a cruise of 70 mph, and 29 MPG with a cruise speed of 55 mph.

This vehicle has great handling, and has very comfortable seats for long trips. We consistently make trips of 900 miles per day, and do not have back pain.

2000 Honda Odyssey from North America

Summary:

Doors are bad and unreliable!!!

Faults:

Our 2000 Odyssey does not have automatic door openers, but it does have MAJOR sliding door problems. From the day we picked up the van I noticed the slid in a rough way, but was assured it was because it was cold. We took it back to the dealer and the oiled the doors. But, you guessed it, it did not help and the problem only got worse.

General Comments:

Not only do the doors open roughly, but they get stuck. And, sometimes they do not close. Our car battery died while we were in Washington DC because the doors were not properly latched and therefore the inside light stayed on all day. We returned to our car to after a long day of walking to a dead battery!!! And, we did not know why at the time. Must anxiey and worry!!!

2000 Honda Odyssey from North America

Summary:

I really don't like it because it's hard to load kids in and out, which is the whole point of a van

Faults:

My doors have been sticking since the car was new. Now the handle is broken from pulling so hard.

Transmission replaced under warranty.

Brakes seem to always need repair.

General Comments:

In general the car is fine--but the doors are a constant unsafe irritant.

2000 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5 from North America

Faults:

I can drive for a 1 to 2 hours, but when I stop, my vehicle is hard to start, and I need to hit the gas to keep the vehicle running.

At first we thought it was the ignition modulators, but they were changed, including the spark plugs, but the problem is still the same.

Also the check engine flashes about 6 times, but it doesn't stay on at all.. Since the problem, my vehicle has like a shake (engine). Don't really know what to do... at this point. Need to know if anybody has the same problem... please help!!

General Comments:

Vehicle rides really great... good gas mileage over long distances.
