2001 Honda Odyssey from North America

Summary:

Such a bad experience all around

Faults:

Growing up, my mother always had a Honda, and they were always great cars. So, when I had a family of my own, I always hoped to get a Honda.

Unfortunately Honda does not seem to be the same company it once was. As you can see from the many postings on this site, I have also had all these problems with this van.

The sliding doors freeze every day in the winter, and will not open.

The transmission went out, and was replaced by Honda. The dealer tried to get us to pay a $700 shipping fee. Now that transmission has gone out, and it is not worth it to put in another faulty transmission.

The brakes are a constant problem. You have to get a lifetime warranty on your brakes if you own this van. We have brought it in for brakes about twice a year.

It has been such an unreliable van, that it is almost a relief to finally have to get rid of it.

General Comments:

This van has been such a disappointment. I really thought Honda was a name I could trust. It looks nice and is comfortable inside, except I did miss the feature in my old Town and Country van, where the middle seats and back seats could recline all the way.

2001 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5 from North America

Summary:

Piece of crap

Faults:

I have had my '01 Odyssey for two months, and it already has given us problems.. The TCS and check engine light came on 50 miles after purchasing it.. The previous owner has warranty on the transmission, which was changed 2000 miles ago. They say it's not the tranny. I had someone else check it, and said the check engine came from the valves... so they fixed that, but it came on again.

I had both lights deleted from memory a few days ago, and so far so good.

Now the brake light comes on and off... I read suggestions here that I will try. After reading the posts, I'm sorry I bought this van :(

General Comments:

Nice looking car, but it's a headache.

2001 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5L V6 MPI from North America

Summary:

I love my 2001 Odyssey

Faults:

Around about 140,000 the "automatic doors" began to give me problems being temperamental. Sometimes they opened; sometimes they didn't (as well as the rear wind wing windows). I took the van to an electrician friend who dismantled the mechanisms, cleaned them and replaced all.

Now everything works "good as new."

General Comments:

The Odyssey is exceptionally comfortable to drive.

I have never had any problems. In fact, quite to the contrary. The seats are comfortable and the van handles like a dream on the numerous and difficult curves and unexpected road "surprises" one finds in the more rustic parts of Mexico. Smooth ride and with the pot-holes!

I have no complaints and am sorry to hear of so many folks who have had transmission problems. I pray that it doesn't happen to me.

I just bought a second Odyssey (2010) because this car has been so wonderful.

2001 Honda Odyssey from North America

Faults:

I have had it for about 7 months, and I bought it used.

A few times I get the service engine soon light with the TCS that will come on.

I have really liked this van. I have 4 children, I live 20 miles from work, and we are in the country so we are not in walking distance to very many things. We must have a vehicle to get around.

Yesterday evening, after I got off work, I pulled into my driveway. My 2001 Odyssey suddenly revved. I then put it in reverse & put it back into D4. You could hear grinding, that I had never heard before. Later I went to the store, about 1 mile away, I was backing up, and I then went to put it into D4 & it just revved. I then dropped it to 1st, which took a bit to get it to go into that gear, just so I could cross the intersection without getting hit. I also noticed that the D4 kept blinking, no matter what gear it was in. So I guess I'm in the same Odyssey boat.
