I have a 1992 Honda prelude v-tech and when I start it up it runs mint then I go around the block and it will either die or backfire and the tack goes up and down then it won't start so ill wait a bit then it finally starts what do you guys recommend it may be.
I have a '93 Prelude VTEC with 174k miles on it. I've put on just about everything possible, except turbo. I've never had any problems with it, no breakdowns, no troubles starting... but if you guys need help or advice, I started at http://www.92lude.com because it has a lot of DIY stuff and a responsive forum with other prelude owners (of all generations, not just 92).

I'm having the same problem intermittently, did you ever figure out how to solve? Please email me at emoryramclam@charter.net and let me know. My is a 1993 4WS SI.
I have a '93 Prelude and I have only had 1 problem and that is everyonce in awhile it will not start it turns over than just dies. To get it started I have to get out of the car and take off the gas cap and let the air out. I cannot figure out how air builds up in it. Anywho help that little tip helps some of you who have the issue starting up and it dieing. Any advice as to what this may be would be appreciated. Also if you are having trouble with getting cold AC check the electrical control below the radiator that connects to the switch on the compressor if it is disconnected that is why you are not getting cold AC. On another note what does a H22a engine run these days?
Hey I was considering getting a 93 Vtec, but would it be a better investment to get a SI and put the extra money I would have spent on the Vtec in it? please email me at Thegadawg3@yahoo.com
Hey there.
I own a 93 prelude Si and I've been having a come and go problem where the car sometimes dies on me and even sometimes when I start it after a short trip it'll crank, but not turn over.. I've changed the fuel pump, distributor recently and really can't find whats wrong with the car. I'm so confused.. as it happens only sometimes.. If anyone has any tips pl email me: fubu_63@hotmail.com
I have a prelude 1993 vtec and it´s one of the most naturally aspirated four bangers I've ever driven or seen. I've even beaten wrx imprezas. It, s really fast if you know how to take advantage of its power especially that amazing thing called vtec. Yeahh.
Yes, but WRX's and the like have an amazing thing too, its called a turbo! And you won't beat one in a 1993 prelude.
Though, here in UK most guys get Japanese import Subarus and Evos. I still think an imported Prelude VTEC sounds fantastic with performance exhaust. Plus it's cheaper to run.
My brother has a 93 Prelude VTEC with 80 thousand on clock, and it still hits 145 mph and under 7 to 60. Better than a UK spec Prelude VTEC.

Honda rules.
I have an imported 93 Prelude 2.2 vtec with a H22A with 62000 kmh, had no problem removing the limiter and converting the clocks with one chip (that cost about £40) usual subtle mods, pipercross force feed cold air intake, complete SS exhaust system, SS strut brace front and back, nice set of Volk Racing GTP alloys, grooved and drilled brake discs with red stuff pads.
But I have a problem with the 4ws; I have changed the control unit behind the rear seat, with no joy. I have been told it's a sensor problem, but where is hard to find. I'm sure there are 5 sensors on the back axle and 2 on the front.
And when I drive along the road at dodgy speed, the back end feels wobbly and I have to struggle to control it.
Anyone else with this problem.
Would like to know how to fix it.

I own a 1993 Honda SI. I have a problem during the summer where when I turn it off, it does not like to start back, for several hours, or until it is cool out side, I've noticed. Any Suggestions!??! Thank you.
Hey, to the person above me, if you read other prelude reviews, the problem is the main fuel relay, which needs to e replaced or soldered back together if its broken, just check out the other reviews.
HELP HELP HELP I thought it was just me with this problem, but lots of you Prelude owners have it to. I have a 92 Prelude, and it does not always start up after turning off the car, and I have to wait about 20 minutes before it will start, and it is worse in the summer months, and just recently it has cut out on me whilst driving, and will start up again about 20 minutes later, just before it cuts out the TCS, ENGINE CHECK LIGHT AND 4WS lights come on. Does anyone know what the problem could be and can it be fixed???
Please please help if you can, much appreciated.
To the comment a few years back Im very confused at a stock prelude reaching only 136mph I run a 2.2 Vtec that easily hits and passes that speed Infact it reached 145MPH without using the 5th gears VTEC and it was measured by an independent check. Yes the car has modifications but few such as Lightened fkywheel race clutch and cat back system, the mechanic who was with me reckoned that with using vtec and enough space it would do 160-165mph I had a 320 Bmw previously and that hit 130mph I think that guy had something wrong with his car or mine seems exceptional any one able to put me wrong?
I bought a prelude vtec today and on the way home cruised along happy as larry at 80 mph then stopped and re fueled and the flipping thing started and died several times, also is the 4ws light meant to stay on or go off? I read some of you other guys saying it may be the fuel pump relay, is that a definate diagnosis? the distributor has been done, can someone tell me where the relay is please?
Thanks guys
