2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0 from North America

Summary:

Great truck all around

Faults:

Clogged up the air intake driving on the beach and the engine misfired and stalled, but it was easy enough to clean out the gunked up air filter.

Removing of any suspension parts require a few days worth of spraying with wd-40 or else the bolt heads will break off and need to be tapped out.

Leaf springs in the rear sag a bit from towing, making the truck ride slightly nose high, but I'll fix it soon myself.

And who used tape decks in 2001?

General Comments:

Comfortable front seats, uncomfortable back seats, but I never sit back there.

Very, very quick for a stock SUV.

I enjoy the non-disconnecting front axle that engages with 4 wheel drive. It's much better than other 4 wheel drive with open differentials in the front and back.

Factory fog lights are nice to have.

Rear wiper is nice, never thought I would need it until I had one.

Never experienced a problem I couldn't fix myself. It's a Jeep thing.

2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport IL 6 from North America

Summary:

Engine Light and Right Speaker problems

Faults:

I have owned my jeep for over 4 years\60K miles and it has held up very well except for a few minor problems.

The engine light came on at 25K miles, so I took it back to the dealer and they told me it was a miss-fire problem in cylinder #1. The engine light came back on 3 more times after that and every time I took it back to the dealer because it was still under warranty.

The dealer finally told me the truth about the engine light coming on. They told me it was an engineering defect and nothing could be done to fix it. All they could do was put a heat shield next to Cylinder #1 to keep it from over heating and causing it to miss-fire. (What BS!)

Now my Jeep is no longer under warranty the engine light has come back on again…. WHAT DO I DO? I’m not going to pay them a $100 for them to reset the engine light and tell me it’s a miss-fire problem. I could ignore the engine light if I knew it came on because of a miss-fire, but what if it came on because of a major problem.

If anybody has any ideas of what I should do, it would be very much appreciated.

Also, I read some of the reviews on Jeep Cherokees and a lot of you complained about the right front speaker not working. I found out after getting new speakers install by Car Toys that the speaker wire is ran under the carpet and it had been broken from me always stepping on it. Why they would run wire that way… I will never know.

Hello fellow Jeeper!

Sounds like you have one of the typical Chrysler Dealers... they expect you to throw money at them, and they give you the run around.

Well I have a simple solution that will tell you what EXACTLY is wrong with your car.

See http://www.carsurvey.org/review_51549.html

This works great on my Liberty (haven't had to read a code yet, but I've tried it for peace of mind). I've also heard the turning it from run to off 4 times will work, but I couldn't get it to, and think that's very hard on the fuel pump.

Hope you can figure out what's wrong with this information. It's a shame the majority of Chrysler's dealers suck; they really do make a great vehicle.

Summary:

Reliable...gets me where I'm going

Faults:

When I first got it the front speakers would come on and off at will. I took it back to the dealer that I bought it from and they fixed the problem... wires where the doors open were worn bare.

General Comments:

I like my Jeep. My previous vehicle was a '89 Dodge Dakota... had to get a new vehicle. I've always liked Jeeps.

I'm very pleased with the acceleration... I live in a very hilly area and it cruises the hills with no problems at all. I need 4WD because of the snow and mud in my area...4WD works great. I had to get use to using it...didn't seem as easy as my Dakota to get it in 4WD, but I think that was my fault.

It is a little noisy, but I can live with that after owning my truck.

It's a comfortable ride... not luxury, but I didn't expect that when I bought it...it's a Jeep. I'm a small person so I find it roomy.

I'm getting about 18.5 miles to the gallon...I'm a little disappointed in that.

I've only had it a couple of months now, but I'm happy I bought it.
