2002 Kia Sedona EX 6.0 from North America

Summary:

A Great Deal for the price

Faults:

Well so far the only thing that has gone wrong with my van is the key less entry. It seems to work when it wants too. On rainy days It would let me get soaked. The dealership has ordered me another. So everything is fine.

General Comments:

I have nothing bad to say about my Sedona. I love the style and comfort. The kids love the van period. I am glad we purchased the EX with all the extras.

2002 Kia Sedona LX 6 cylinder from North America

Summary:

A dangerous, but comfortable ride

Faults:

There was a stress crack in the windshield. This was repaired under warranty.

I have had 2 oil filters which have failed. Again a warranty repair.

I have had the grille replaced ans well as part of the roof rack.

The big one happened last week. My wife and child were stopped a red light when the brakes failed and our vehicle was involved in a collision. The resolution to this is still pending.

2002 Kia Sedona EX 3.5L from North America

Summary:

A smooth running quick and comfortable minivan

Faults:

Initially, the car rack had an extremely annoying wind noise. Dealer took several hours to find the correct configuration of components to correct problem. It has been repaired and the van is very quiet.

A rock cracked my windshield and my insurance company had it replaced with no problems.

General Comments:

A very quick car that has no problem entering the interstates and maintaining highway speeds.

A roomy and comfortable interior that appears well made. Having wide latitude with seats adjustments make long trips relaxing.

Gas mileage is good considering the weight of the vehicle. We average approximately 20 mpg combined highway city driving. When we stay at posted speed limits on the interstates mileage is around 25 mpg.

Engine is very smooth and extremely quiet even at highway speeds.

Reliability appears fine since we have had no problems with the vehicle since acquiring other than the earlier mentioned wind noise.

Everyone that rides in the van with us finds it very attractive and seem to think highly of it.

We will keep this van for at least the 5 years we financed it for at 1.9% and then see what other KIA models are available.

My 2003 Sedona ex also had a cracked windshield (from stone chip). luckily my dealer repaired for free. I had pointed out that I saw many comments (on Edmund's) of people having my same problem. {soft glass??) anyways he said it would have been $750 to replace it if I had to pay. hopefully this next windshield is a little stronger. other than this and an occasional moaning from right back a/c duct, I love the van and have enjoyed driving it. 4700 miles so far. still a long ways to go, but happy as of now.

2002 Kia Sedona LX 3.5L from North America

Summary:

All around the biggest mistake I've made!

Faults:

The Sedona broke down less than 2 hours after I purchased the vehicle and drove it home. Dead battery, or so the dealer said. It actually turned out to be the alternator, or so they said after they had the vehicle 19 of the first 21 days I owned it. It's been in the shop about 11 times in less than 1 year for problems like leaking power steering pump, no cruise control, fuel pump quit working, A/C quit working, and been in the shop 4 times for the same "alternator/battery". (It's in the shop as we speak) I also failed to mention the automatic transmission wasn't so automatic. I would put it in gear and take about 5 seconds to engage. When it did engage, it felt like I left the transmission on the road! (It would jar the whole van) It's been a nightmare and to make matters worse, the dealer I purchased it from and the local KIA dealer don't give a care about my van or my problems! They "fix" the van at they're leisure, sometimes the van will sit at the shop for over 2 weeks before they even diagnose it. I understand they're busy, but I have 2 children and 1 vehicle and they won't even give me a loaner or a rental. I have to pay for the rental out of pocket. I feel sorry for anyone who buys a KIA.

General Comments:

Biggest mistake I ever made on this purchase!

Do you still own it or have you taken the hit and traded it? I've owned since new a 2002 Sedona which now has 103,000 kilometres (60,000 miles) on the odometer and I am now experiencing the same electrical fault, battery etc, you did.

For some obscure reason the emergency brake and battery dash warning light come on and just today, the radio quit. At this very minute I'm writing this the van is parked halfway up my driveway with a dead battery. Can you let me know if you resolved the problem with your van.

Thanks.
