2003 Lexus LX 470 from North America

Summary:

It is an impractical jeep with a phony luxury disguise

Faults:

Exhaust rattle shortly after purchase. Needed a new harness from the factory that had a cost of about $800.

Thin, rough leather. The seats aren't comfortable compared to new LX470's because of the stiffness of the leather after 4 years.

Incompatible tow hitch mount. Toyota used some sort of cast material instead of material which seems to be narrower at the top than at the bottom. No aluminum tow hitches can fit. The spare tire is too close to the hitch mount so steel tow hitches cannot fit.

One of the third row seats no longer snaps in place on the floor. Cause is unknown.

General Comments:

It is a pretty nice looking car, especially with chrome factory wheels and dark monotone paint.

The interior is attractive, but uncomfortable.

It has low horsepower, but a nice amount of torque and tows pretty well, if you can get it to attach to a trailer properly.

The ride adjustment could lose at least one setting, and the height adjustment is complicated.

It has off-road technology that will never be used, the price reflects it.

It has very limited space compared to other, cheaper luxury SUV's.

The gas mileage is terrible for a car with so little horsepower.

The third row seat is only capable of seating 2 children or 0 adults (it is recommended for 3 adults).

It is too tall, wide, and high for a luxury car.

The second row seats are limited on leg room, but the middle seat is fantastic compared to other SUV's and has no transmission tunnel.

The dvd system is very complicated.

The Mike Levinson stereo system doesn't sound any better than standard stereo systems in most cars.

The navigation system still lists restaurants that went out of business before I was even born.

Maybe a minivan is more suitable for you!

It is a minivan, it sure is NOT a truck.

26th Jan 2009, 15:04

Yeah, not a truck. It's only based off the most successful and one of the most capable trucks in the history of mankind. People drive TLC's everywhere in the world in the harshest conditions and the LX is only a bit toned down from the TLC. The thing is more capable off road than 99.9% of vehicles.

Ha!...it's MARK Levinson sound system. Do you even own the vehicle?

Sure doesn't sound like it.

If you can't get comfortable in an LX then you're out of luck.

2000 Lexus LX 470 from North America

Summary:

Unreliable

Faults:

The car stereo - Nakamechi- is a piece of junk. I love this car, but the problems with this stereo have soured me on this car brand and associated warranty service policies permanently. I paid $32,000 for this "used auto", and purchased an extended warranty from the LEXUS dealership. The entire service department has turned out to be a bunch of "uppity snobs". Once they have your money--forget it, they've got you; and customer satisfaction means nothing to them. Instead of replacing the unit, which started acting up @39,500 under the original manufacturer's warranty. Now, they offered to sell another "rebuilt" model from the dealership to resolve the problem (like they were doing me a favor). Why on earth would I want to buy a replica of a product with which I have had so much trouble?

I can go to Best Buy and purchase a more reliable product and have better customer service.

General Comments:

Do not buy a car from Lexus unless you enjoy throwing away money. The customer service from the dealership stinks. LEXUS Regional Office is of no help either, so don't count on the manufacturer to be any better.

I wouldn't say that the car is unreliable because of the car's audio player. This could have been replaced by another CD player. They are not out for people's money. In my opinion they have exceptional customer service standards and are very helpful.

Now hang on a minute...

You cannot call the whole car unreliable because of the stereo not working!

Did the car start every day? Did it steer, stop and ride safely?

I think you should have bought a stereo instead of a car, as this seems to be your highest priority!
