WHAT WOULD IT TAKE TO START A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT??? ANY IDEAS? ANY LAWYERS OUT THERE?
I have a 00 LS with 170K miles. When the car wants to run, it is smooth. Other wise, I just leave it at the Ford dealership and send them my pay check at the end of the pay period.
02 LS 3.9 V8 owner. Just broke 80k and starting to have issues.
Check charging system light came on a month ago, was told by pep-boys it needed a new alternator. Replaced that; same problem persisted. Was told remanufactured alternator was bad; replaced 2nd one same day and still had the issue. (battery was replaced a month prior) Pep-boys mechanic told me that there was an electric problem with a starter wire shorting out, and he could fix it for another $100. I let him do it as I was driving 900 miles from FL to AR that week. Problem went away until I turned on my stereo. (1500w). Light came back on, and I know its not my stereo amps as I've never had an issue for the last 8 months with same audio system. Light went off a month ago and haven't had an issue since, but I'm still questioning the fix.
Now my car sputters at 1500 rpms, @ 48 - 52mph and also idles rough. Cylinder 3 misfire code by Advanced Auto Parts, $563 tune up at tires-plus made it worse. Then they told me it is a valve cover leak into the top of the cylinder and I have to take it to the dealer for it to be fixed. Can't wait to see the bill for that.
Other than these 2 problems, I've never had a single issue with my LS and overall I am truly please with the performance and quality of this luxury car that can outrun a Mustang GT with just a couple mods. From the looks of the other posts, I'm now wondering if my mind will soon be changed!
I just bought my 2000 LS 3.9 V8 last week. It looked brand new inside and out. Airbag light was on but seemed to be the only issue.
I needed dependable transportation.
This is totally not it. I am very upset that the first thing I saw was creamy light brown on the oil cap.
Said it needed oil change. Just got that done.
Then engine light came on after I left the shop, who charged me 70 bucks for an overall check head to toe on the car, and said it has a vacuum leak. The lower ball joints, and rotors are warped as well as the tires are pulling off of the rims. Rotors are rusty too they said.
All in all, if I give them 1100 plus or minus, they will fix those issues.
I got into the intersection and the car quit. I sat there blocking all traffic in front of the shop for like five minutes.
The car started right back up, and now the engine light is on again.
If I go over a speed bump, it feels loose and I feel like the front end is going to come out from under the car.
Even on the highway, I found it wouldn't turn and felt like I was sliding across the lanes.
I am scared to put people in the car, and also scared to drive it.
I saw one just like mine on ebay for 9900 give or take.
I'm thinking about doing that also and this time getting a Toyota.
I am checking on class action suit for all of you that have owned yours longer than me.
I know an attorney that is supposed to call me back Monday or Tuesday and will let me know.
If he says he will do it, I will give you all the info.
I wish I had known this before I bought this car.
It looks so awesome and I am so disappointed.
I bought a 2001 LS full sports package about 1 month ago for a deal, was told that the engine was just reworked and the work has a 3 month warranty. Glad I had that. Two weeks into it the engine was "overheating", even though the engine was still cold. I took it back and told them the problem, and they replaced the temp sensor in the engine and fixed a minor leak. When I reverse or put it in drive, it takes a sec to jump into gear and I have to get a mechanic to put in the power steering pump because the design prevents me from attempting myself. Email me about the lawsuit... wkroache@ymail.com
I bought my 2000 LS V8 with 39k about 3 years ago, so have been through a sh*t load of pads and rotors (lost count) drivers heated seat, countless left brake bulbs, ball joints.
It was sputtering between 40 and 50, took to Lincoln, they said it was coil #2, had it replaced and it started back up.
A week later, foggy headlight, cracked water reservoir, lug nuts, gasket, is just to name a few.
And Ford wonders why they are losing sales, MAKE CUSTOMERS HAPPY AND FIX YOUR F*** UPS!!!
I was looking to buy a Range Rover until I found out it was made by Ford, now I am looking at Infiniti, Lexus, or Acura. Hate to give my business to the Japanese, but they will keep more money in my pocket in the long run.
Also has anyone heard about a law suit against this ailing company? If so, please let me know jayh231@yahoo.com
And whoever is thinking of buying one, don't, they are beautiful to look at and drive if you can ever get it out of the Lincoln dealership.
I've read most of the post and have to add my 2 cents. I've replaced the window assembly. The replacement assembly is a better design than the original. Appears that Ford realized the original window regulator is crap and re-engineered the replacement part. My car has 190K miles and currently have air condition problems, rpm gauge was acting erratically and the car suddenly stop on me while on freeway. Sun roof stopped working, coil problems, etc... disappointed in Ford.
I guess I'll join the chorus. I bought my 2001 LS, V8, Sport package in May 2003. Beautiful car--even to this day. Other than replacing the two rear window regulators, I had no major problems for the first 4 years I owned it. However, over the last 18 months or so, I've put at least $3000 into that car for various common repairs--coils, both front regulators, some other crap.
I still have to get the catalytic converters replaced and something else that escapes me right now. Those repairs will cost me another $1500. I wanted to keep the car until I hit 130,000 (I'm currently at 100,000), but I don't think I can afford to. I cringe at the thought of having to get the transmission replaced.
The LS is like a beautiful, but high maintenance, woman. You love having her on your arm... but boy does she cost you.
I don't understand how you are paying so much for simple repairs on this. All 8 coils brand new off ebay 140 dollars. Should be no more than 150 labor. Window regs are 55 dollars each. All this stuff is so easy to do. You paying too much is your fault, not the cars.
Also a new cat is like 155 dollars on ebay. I also saw used good ones for 55.
Stop bringing it to dealer and find nice local guy like me to fix the car cheap.
Like many of you out there, I have had the infamous "misfire" on my 2002 LS.
I bought the car about 6 months ago with 65000 miles. I didn't have any problems with it until about 2 months ago. We left it be for a while hoping it would get better, but it never did.
Because of everything we've read, we assumed it was the ignition coils. We took it in and there was a misfire on coil #5. Replaced that coil and spark plug only to find out it didn't work. $250 later.
After weighing our options, we decided to take the car back to where we got it fixed the first time. This time he said there seemed to be a misfire on more than one coil, so we would have to replace the remaining 7... $850. Luckily we have a family friend that could order the parts and install them for us for $400 (before we knew how easy it was to do ourselves) So, we replaced the remaining 7 spark plugs and coils and still nothing. We are now about $700 into this problem and angry. We never had any oil or anything in the spark plugs or anywhere, so we knew the head gaskets weren't leaking.
At this point we didn't know what else to think. We were going to look into the fuel injectors, a vacuum leak and possibly the computer. Last minute today my boyfriend decided he was going to dig into it and try to find the PCV valve to see if there was a leak. He couldn't get to it. While he was in there he thought he would check and make sure all the hoses were clamped and everything was hooked up right... Sure enough, the electrical connector for the #5 cylinder injector wasn't snapped on all the way. Car stopped misfiring, check engine light is off, and we put $800 into our car that we didn't need to. Chalk it up to a lesson learned I guess.
Before you start putting a bunch of money trying to fix all of the "could be's" make sure it's nothing stupid like ours was. Good luck.
I posted here before on page 4 and a couple people have e-mailed me with questions to various LS problems. To people that are having problems with your LSes I suggest you join LincolnvsCadillac. com as many solutions to things including how to replace the valve cover seals as well as many others on there. You name it, it's been talked about and it will save you a lot of headache and money. My username on there is TDUB if you decide to join.
I thought it was just me. I'm experiencing the same issues. I should have read this site before signing my name to that contract. The look of the car is great, but it's crappy!
I am amazed that there are so many people with the same problems. I have replaced the window motor, brakes (several times), shocks, and wheel barrings for the rattling noise that sounds as if the front end is about to come off; spark plugs/wires, thermostat for the hot smell and heater not blowing hot air, sputtering engine, decrease in power and ac blowing cold air sometimes and not so cold sometimes. The window motor seems to be the only thing I've replaced that actually fixed the problems I've had. Everything else has been a waste of money. Same problems still exist. And of course when I bought the car 3 years ago it was worth what I paid and now with all the problems its worth about 1/2 of what I owe! Makes me want to cry.
Oh my gosh, I am so glad I found this site. I thought it was just my LS that was a pile of crap. I have been having problems for awhile and haven't gotten anything figured out. The car was having sputtering like all the others above while accelerating and on highway and now it runs like crap, missing and sputtering, just idling in the driveway. We replaced coil and plugs and it ran like new for about 3 days. Then, totally back to the way it was, it was just teasing I guess. LOL Computer at autozone showed missfire on both sides. Not sure what to do next, I guess try vaccum lines? Now the passenger front and rear windows won't work, front one totally fell down in the door. This thing goes through brakes and rotors like crazy and I am so fed up. Thanks for all the info above and let me know of any lawsuits or anything. Thanks. nstar416@yahoo.com.
Hi everyone.
I bought my 2000 LS in 2002, I have 117,000 miles on it now.
I have gone through every problem listed. Windows (4) fixed under warranty, Oil smell, fixed under warranty, all (8) sensors my $$$$$, front end loose factory recall, front end on me $$$$, now clock spring on me $$$$. But you know some thing, you shine it up and take it on a highway cruise, no better touring car on the road. But fellas that's just me.
I would never take my other car on a 2hr. ride anywhere.
My wife and I drive in comfort, when we go to Ct. to see my son. One more thing I try not to drive it the day of a snow storm. IT IS A SLED even with the accu trak.
The Vooch.
Owner of a 2000 Lincoln LS V6, I bought this car from a co-worker that warned me that it was a "piece of crap", his words. He had replaced many of the part mentioned earlier, and still had lots of problems.
The car had all the coils, plugs, and wires replaced, but was still rough idling. The air-conditioning (AC) would also stop working while idle, but that got resolved when they replaced the PCM (some say Programmable Computer Module others Powertrain Computer Module) which ever it is, about $550.00... fixed the problem right away. The misfire and the rough idling stopped, along with the lack of AC.
It now drives like a dream ride, hopefully stays that ways. Now I need to address the clock spring, to get rid of the air bag light and restore my steering wheel controls.
Should a class action law suit get started, please let me know. I'll bring my experiences and headaches to the table. Hvac007@socal.rr.com
