<<I have a 2002 Millenia S with the Miller Cycle Engine. Have had 0 problems until 112,000 miles. Now the head gasket is blown and the dealers say they will not replace it on this engine. Replacing it only causes more problems. Only hope is to spend $10,000 for a new engine.
Any thoughts?>>
Sounds like your only "economic" way out would be to part out the car. Or you could give it to charity, but most charity only take running cars.
In July 2006 I purchased a 2000 Mazda Millenia S. I got a pretty good price, $6,500 with 76,000 miles. I guess it was so cheap because of all the problems it has given me. I have replaced the fan motor because the car had been overheating. 2 O2 sensors, both cats., luckily It was done at 79,000 miles under the 80,000 mile warranty. The Check Engine light is always on, I just disconnect the battery and I goes off for a week or so. Also, both rear wheel bearings have been replaced. The heated seats barely work... Any suggestins??? Now, in January, either my right front CV joint or tohe wheel bearing also needs to be replaced because it is causing the ABS and TCS lights to come on and makes a lound clicking scratching noise as I turn. Now I have roughly 85,000 miles on the car and shifting between 1-2nd gears has gotten worse. Hopefully a transmission flush will do the trick. Any ways, If you're looking at a Millenia, beware. I've heard good things about the non "S" version, but are far and few. My advice is, save time and the hassle of these cars. The repairs are EXPENSIVE! It looks nice, but that's what got me hooked. Lesson Learned!
I have a 2001 Millenia S purchased new in 2001. I've had similar experience with the check engine light. It has been on for several months. With sate inspection now due I'll need to resolve. The problem I've not seen, is with slow leaks in all my tires. The tire dealer says it is due to corrosion of the alloy wheels. Anyone had a similar problem? I'm thinking if all my wheels are corroded, there must be others with similar experience.
I have a 2001 Mazda Millenia, that I love. The only thing wrong is I get a very strong gas smell occasionally. Anyone experience this? What did you do to stop it?
Owner of a 2001 Mazda Millenia, unique fit and finish entry-luxury sedan, I've owned now for 6 years, was purchased as a program at the Mazda dealer with only 3K miles, so practically brand new, enjoyed the ride and the compliments that I still recieve, but just started having little minor problems, the average wear and tear, its just the maintenance of the vehicle is at BMW type prices, Expensive maintenance
Owned a 2002 Mazda Millenia since new. 90,000 miles. No transmission problems, no knock light problems. No catalytic converter issues. Have also owned a Mazda MPV which was trouble free.
I just purchased a Mazda Millenia 2002 S last week with 72,000 miles on it. Big mistake, I bought it at an auction. The check engine light came on after driving it for five minutes. After driving it for 10 minutes, the Traction Control System light went off. The car started jerking. I had to pull the car off from the highway. I have not registered the car, but thinking of selling it. I am worried that there may be more hidden problems. Any suggestions?
Just past 60k on my '01 millenia.
Do you all think I really need to replace the timing belt? costs like $525.
Any other thoughts for what to do/expect for this vehicle would be appreciated.
Thank you.
My wife and I bought our 2001 Mazda Milenia in 2004. Overall, we have enjoyed our vehicle; however, we are having problems with the O2 sensor. In 2004, we had the O2 sensor replaced because it came on after it was driven off the lot. In February 2007, the check engine light came on again. As a result, the O2 sensor was replaced. Today (May 6,2007), the check engine light has come on again. Since purchasing the car, I've always burned 93 octane. It appears that the O2 sensor is a problem!
I am thinking about purchasing a Millenia 01 from a used car dealership. I found out that I would be the third owner and that the dealership purchased it from an auction. I loved the way the car drove and the way it looks. If you were in my shoes (before having purchased your Millenias) what would you have done differently?
Hmmm, sounds like a lot of the same problems. I bought my 2001 Millenia in 2002. My work requires me to travel and I now have 194,000 miles on the car. Considering the mileage I've put on it, I thought the maintenance I've paid for was legitimate. Maybe not? Engine light has been constantly on for about 3 years. It just started flashing yesterday. I spent over $2,000 last summer to get the engine light off for emissions and now it's that time again! The dealer says it needs a whole new electrical system to get it turned off. I'll try the battery idea before I go get emissions this time. I've replaced 2 cats, 4 O2's (twice), all cv joints, trunk and gas clickers rarely work, transmission has slipped since I got it - the dealer just says it's normal (?). I use my own mechanic now. I've used high octane gas every time and use synthetic oil every time. I love the car, but maybe it's time to let go...
I own a 2001 Mazda Millenia. The check engine light is on, but apparently not for any problems stated above, its the egr valve sensor because the light turns off for about a week every once in a while. The car has 93k miles and has a broken cv joint that I soon have to fix. About a month ago I had to have the engine completely rebuilt. There is these wierd knocking noises when taking off and braking comin from under the car and my air conditioner smells bad on humid days. I am now using a synthetic high mileage oil and had the transmission flushed which solved my gear slipping problem, I also use 91 octane fuel now and have had no other major problems. This car will pull you in withs its semi-luxury interior and sporty exterior, but the amount spent on repairs is to much so I don't really recommend buying one.
I have a 01 Millenia with 98,000 miles. I bought it at 49,000 miles and the only maintenance I've done are regular oil changes/air filters. The gas mileage is terrible now and I have to replace three O2 sensors. I also hear a rattling noise which sounds like the cat to me (my mechanic put it on lifters and said he couldn't hear anything). What I want to know is what are the recommended maintenance protocol for this mileage. I'm kind of hesitant to let anyone do any major work on it for fear that it cause many other problems. Please email me Irving@nextgenrealty.com if you have suggestions. Thanks.
I drive a 1996 Millenia L with 146,000 miles and I love this car. I bought it used in 1997 with only 8,000 miles. It still drives like new with only routine maintenance. One thing I did have a problem with was the check engine light which was on for about 3 years before I fixed it. The OBDC code indicated "EGR system fault" so I took the throttle body off and cleaned out a lot of gunk with carb cleaner. There were 2 holes in the base of the throttle body that were completly plugged with gunk which I cleared. After putting it back together, the check engine light immediately went out.
My 2001 Milenia has had the same problems you describe. I had to replace the transmission at 90,000 miles, my passenger side air bag light is continually going off and on. I have had several problems with "check engine" light coming on and now I have been told that I need to replace my catalytic converters.
The car drives great, has a great sound system, nice sun roof and incredible acceleration. I now understand why they stopped making this model.
