Installed lighted running boards. Water leaks into the lights- shorting them out. Four different dealerships have worked on them.
GPS Antenna shorted out at 15,000 miles.
Power window failed in the down position at 20,000 miles. Faulty switch in the center console.
Radio volume failed at 21,000 miles. Dealer replaced entire unit.
A/C compressor seized at 28,000 miles. Smoked the drive belt and almost started engine fire.
Very unreliable car.
Don't waste your money. Spend your hard earned cash elsewhere.

Hey, don't lump the rest of the Mercedes range because of your M-class problem. That M-Class single-handedly dragged down the reliability average of Mercedes cars, and had the worst reliability after its first year of cars in the Consumer Reports test, even worse than Chryslers. You want to spend $40K on a Merc there are far better ways to go.
I Had a 1999 Mercedes ML 320 and I have to tell you it was the biggest pile of junk. I bought it used at 54,000 and got rid of it at 72,000 and this is what was replaced. Fuel pump, light switch, window switch, turn signal, shocks and struts, torsion bars, and a sensor that regulates fuel mixture. I decided to go with a 01 with a factory warranty, see how it goes.
