2000 Mercury Cougar V6 2.5L from North America

Summary:

An awesome car- one of the best mid-size cars in its class

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong so far.

At 4 years old, the car only had 39000Km, so was barely broken in.

General Comments:

I've always had a preference for Ford/Mercury products and this car has not let me down at all in that department.

The car was in amazing shape when I bought it- the engine barely broken in, no body damage and no stains or marks on the upholstery. For that I thank the previous owner.

As for the exceptional performance of the car, I maintain my preference for Ford products.

The engine is quiet, powerful and smooth.

The car handles on corners like it's glued to the road.

The transmission shifts smooth as silk whether in the city or on the highway.

I've been getting 28 mpg on the highway and about 24 mpg in the city.

2000 Mercury Cougar V6 from North America

Summary:

They stopped making them for a reason

Faults:

The fist problem I experienced with the car was an electrical shortage, causing my interior lights to flicker and my cd/radio display to appear scrambled.

The truck release also is extremely temperamental. Sometimes it works other times I have had to turn off the car and manually open the trunk.

The worst problem with the car is that it has begun to jerk upon acceleration. The car also has a tendency to loose power or begin rolling backward while on an incline. This was first diagnosed as a transmission problem by the dealer. I did not get it fixed at that time because I failed to believe that a brand new car was experincing transmission problems. Ford then released a recall on the fuel pump of the vehicle which listed the problems I was experiencing. I had the pump replaced, but the problems remained. Other mechanics are puzzled as to what is causing this engine stalling and loss of power, and surges. These cars are very unreliable.

General Comments:

I enjoyed the car until it began to have problems that could not get a clear diagnosis.

I too own a Cougar, but I really haven't had any problems with it. I did exp. problems when I would try to accelerate on to the freeway, when I asked the dealership they really didn't give me a definite answer for what was happening. I personally work for an Insurance company. I deal with a lot of cars. This one customer that I have has a cougar she told me that there are 3 sensors near the engine that you need to change. Once you changed the sensors you won't have those problems. She also told me that they are easy to change. Look in your manual it should show you were they are located.

2000 Mercury Cougar V6 2.5L from North America

Summary:

Great Price for a sharp sports car!

Faults:

Rod bearing spun out and destroyed the crank shaft and pistons.

The engine has to be replaced.

Whomever had the car before me, must've run it hard.

General Comments:

I love my cougar.

It has been in the shop for two weeks now and it's driving me crazy.

The car steers really good around sharp curves. It handles the road like no other.

Other than the engine needing to be replaced I haven't had any problems out of it.

I keep the oil changed ever three thousand miles. I keep it clean.

It does really good with gas.

Beautiful body style. I receive comments almost every day about how sharp my car looks. I've done a lot of stuff to it. Headlight covers, blackouts and sunroof vent. Windows are tinted. I love that car.

I wouldn't owe another car. In my opinion, Cougars are the best looking sports car on the market.

I'm having problems right now because the dealer I bought the car off of, didn't turn in my warranty money ($1,600) and the papers and his time is up. So, in order to get my car fixed, I have to take him to court. Where he didn't turn in the money, I don't have a warranty.
