1986 Nissan Hardbody Pickup Hardbody 2.4 from North America

Summary:

This has been an outstanding truck

Faults:

Cluster switch (twice).

Speedometer cable (twice).

Distributor.

Speedometer needle works some of the time, but the odometer is accurate.

Normal maintenance on batteries, brakes, and tune-ups.

General Comments:

This truck has been hit by 3 deer and after having the front bumper, hood and grille changed, is still running well.

At 207,000 it still has the original clutch.

It still only burns about a quart of oil between oil changes.

1986 Nissan Hardbody Pickup Extended Cab 3 from North America

Summary:

A great 4x4 for a good price

Faults:

The piston rings burned out, but that was my fault because I buried the front end under 4 foot of water in the New Mexico wilderness. I came out the other end though.

I also had to replace the interlocking hubs, but again just a product of rough handling and four wheeling.

General Comments:

I love this truck. I have never owned anything else, but who would want one with what the 86.5 can handle. I have put it through some really nasty places, and it has come out of the vast majority of them. It isn't the most comfortable ride, but it's a 4x4 and it does what it is supposed to. I love it.

1986 Nissan Hardbody Pickup 3.0 from North America

Faults:

Fuel pump, alternator, endless tires, CV joints, A/C pump, leak in windshield, multiple belts for the engine, exhaust system, brakes, timing belt just to name a few!

General Comments:

My god, never EVER buy a 1986.5 Nissan Truck, not only do they fall apart and look ugly, they aren't reliable at all. Rust builds up like crazy no matter what you do, and settling for a cheap white paint job makes my truck look like white out... and since I'm such a fool, I invested money into getting a bra, tunnel cover, fog lights, light covers, ground effects just to make it look good, I didn't fool anyone... it still looks and runs like junk!

Well you must have gotten a lemon if there are any. My beautiful Nissan Hard-body is a 1986 1/2 and it will outrun full size Chevy trucks with the 350 vortech! That is in the 1/4 mile run and mine is factory with 256,000 miles on it.

I have a 1986.5 nissan hard body which just clicked over 286,000 miles. It is still running great with the original engine, transmission, and even the original clutch. Maybe you should try waxing it once in a while because my paint is just fine. Oh yeah, that's original too.

1986 Nissan Hardbody Pickup 2.4L from North America

Faults:

Water pump and alternator had to be replaced at 235,000 and 239,000 miles respectively. Plastic sliding rear window latch broke off years ago. Plastic molding around interior cracked. Seat on driver side split, maybe due to occupant :)

General Comments:

I LOVE THIS CAR! It more reliable than any other car I've owned, and I've owned this since 1986.5. If I knew what I know now, I would have purchased 2 more at the same time to use when this one dies, next millenium. It's not a powerful machine, nor a luxury ride, but it makes it up in reliability!
