1994 Nissan Sentra GXE 1.6 from North America

Summary:

Excellent Pick for even the novice guy in cars in US!

Faults:

As of today from the day that I bought this car from a used-car Dealer, this is a perfect car for any new student coming to US. Very Reliable, Excellent Mileage. I am getting a mileage of minimum 35miles inside town and around 45 in highways. I have made only one general maintenance after I bought this car. That's all the expense that I did in this car. As far as I know, just doing the general maintanence every 3000 miles properly should render this car run for atleast 2,25,000 without any problems.

General Comments:

1. Best car for any student.

2. Excellent mileage.

3. Reliable for long drives.

4. Worth for the dollars you spend.

5. Room space inside the car need to be more for excellent rating for room space. But still I would give a 6 out of 10 for internal space.

1994 Nissan Sentra E 1.6 DOHC from North America

Summary:

More reliable than your ownself

Faults:

Changed starter at 140000 and at 230000.

A/C compressor died at 180000.

A/C Evaporator leaking.

Changed thermostat at 135000.

Changed alternator at 230000.

Changed both front axles at 150000.

Corners very well for a car like this.

Usual stuff like left head lamp, both tail lamps and front right turn lamp changed.

General Comments:

Haven't seen a car this reliable.

Park outside at -30 degrees celcius avernight, starts in a single crank. (I think that's why had to change starter twice).

Admirable power for an engine this size.

Nissan stopped making this engine (GA16DE) otherwise would have bought another one like this. Don't know how good is the new Sentra engine (1.8L).

Auto has a smooth shift unless gas pushed aggressively.

Front passenger is very roomy, but rear is crimped.

Less engine noise than Corolla and Civic, but more road noise. Highway ride is relatively quite specially with overdrive engaged.

Very good basic transportation.

Upto 200000, used to give me about 20km/litre on highway (5litres/100kms). The fuel average has gone down recently. I am sure it needs a tune up.

I think after about 10000km more, I'll have to change the front axles again. I don't mind.

1994 Nissan Sentra XE 1.6L from North America

Summary:

Reliability seekers ahoy

Faults:

This car was brand new when my mother bought it in 1994, and she gave it to me and bought a 2002 Sentra when I turned 17 in 2001.

My Sentra never had any major problems at all. We took good care of it, and the worst thing that happened to it was the automatic seatbelts locked up because of a faulty mechanism.

When I got the car, however, I didn't put oil in it for a while, and the engine seized up while I was driving. We replaced the engine with a 1993 Sentra's, and now it runs like nothing ever happened to it. It even looks good for being 9 years old.

General Comments:

I love my car, and I won't get rid of it unless I have to. It's more than reliable when you take care of it, and since it's considered sub-compact you can park in almost any tight space.

The Sentra is definitely worth every penny.

1994 Nissan Sentra Limited Edition 1.7 from North America

Faults:

I have had to have the starter changed twice.

I had to have both axles replaced in the front end. (expensive)

Rubber around doors have to be stuffed back in place often, especially in rear seating area.

Trunk leaks when it rains.

Automatic windows are not working on one side of car (passenger side).

I keep losing the front passenger hubcap. I have bought at least 4.

I had my 60,000 mile maintenance done and since then, my check engine light goes on and off. The dealer said it was because exhaust builds up and makes the light go on and off. It was very funny that this did not happen until I took it in to (have it maitained).

I had an oil leak which was because of a crank case. (expensive)

General Comments:

Well, I keep driving this care because I know all the things that are wrong with it. If I go out and get another car, I will be driving blind. So to speak!!
