1994 Nissan Sentra LE 2.4 Liter from North America

Summary:

I didn't enjoy the car, but I have heard good thing from other owners

Faults:

In the two years that I have owned this car I have had to replace the passenger side drive shaft three times. I don't know if this is a result of bad parts. The car just seems to wear them out quickly.

Early in my second year of ownership, the car started to die at random intervals. It acted like it wasn't getting any gas. I realized that everytime I started the car the fuse to the fuel pump was blowing. We replaced the fuel pump, but the fuse still kept shorting out. Then I started having other electrical problems. I took it to a shop that specializes in electrical problems. They tore out the entire interior of the car, trying to find the short. They never did. They put a breaker on the line just before the fuel pump instead. I drove the car for three days before it died once again. Eventually, it just stopped doing it. I have found another local person whose Sentra (the same year as mine) is doing the same thing.

The only other problems I've had with the car were general matienance (muffler, brakes, etc.)

General Comments:

It handles well, especially on ice and snow.

The interior is very comfortable for small people (like myself) but the back seat tends to leave one's legs cramped.

It is great on gas. I usually get around 33 miles to the gallon on the interstate.

1994 Nissan Sentra LE 1.6 twin cam from North America

Summary:

Cheaper version of 1980's 3 series - good performance and reliability at the best price

Faults:

I had the starter replaced at 65k.

Bad axle at 72,000 (replaced 2 weeks ago). That was actually my fault: I revved the engine in Neutral and pulled in Drive. Don't do that with a small car.

General Comments:

I love how the car handles. Sharp turns and precise steering. If I set the right tire pressure I could compare my Sentra with a Golf or older BMW.

The acceleration is very good for a 1.6, especially 1st and 2nd.

I like the small engine, very responsive.

Good body work, very little rust.

35 mpg.

1994 Nissan Sentra SE Small 4 Cycl from North America

Summary:

This is a quality made, highly reliable hunk of iron (well plastic anyway)

Faults:

Nothing!

General Comments:

I have never replaced any mechanical parts in this car.

Change oil every 3K.

Good acceleration for a small car.

Excellent gas mileage.

I don't like the fact that you must remove the rear deck to change the rear shocks.

Starts without hesitation after sitting idle for long periods of time.

Trunk leaks and car smells of mildew.

My only fear is getting hit in this thing. Closed casket funerals only!

1994 Nissan Sentra E 1.6 liter DOHC from North America

Summary:

A peppy little car that shouldn't be overlooked

Faults:

Between 100,000 to 107,000 miles the starter, alternator, and A/C compressor failed.

My car also has a few oil leaks, one of which is pretty major.

I also had to replace a C/V boot at 101,000 miles.

The engine has pinging sounds during warm weather, despite the fact I use high grade fuel.

General Comments:

However, the car has 109,000 miles on it, so maybe I shouldn't complain.

The engine is powerful and responsive for such a small car.

The suspension is lacking for a car of this power.

The catalytic converter emits a rotten egg smell in the winter.
