2000 Oldsmobile Alero GLS V 6 3.4L from North America

Summary:

Will never buy GM again

Faults:

Dashboard is peeling back.

Anti-lock, service vehicle, and track off lights are on.

Have had the coolant system worked on 4 times and it is still overheating.

Cruise control out.

Back passenger side window does not roll down.

Front passenger window fell off track.

All of this under 60000 miles.

General Comments:

Good pick up speed and good looks, but has cost far too much money and headache.

Coolant system is shot and I hear it's form the GM made Dex cool.

2000 Oldsmobile Alero GT from North America

Summary:

A complete disappointment

Faults:

The dash board has wrinkles in it.

The material around the sunroof fell down.

I have to get brakes at least once a year.

The serpentine belt had to be replaced.

My low tire pressure light comes on every other week.

The window wouldn't work in the cold.

The turn signal or hazzard light makes a clicking noise even when they are not on.

The rear view mirror has fallen off once.

The water pump had to be replaced.

General Comments:

I can't even begin to explain what has gone wrong with this car. It's constantly been in the shop. I had owned two oldmobiles in the past and they were wonderful cars. The Oldsmobile Alero is a complete disappointment. I don't think anyone should have to deal with a car like this. I could have probably purchased a BMW with all the money I have put into this car. I will never buy a General Motors car again.

2000 Oldsmobile Alero GLS 3.4L from North America

Summary:

This car is not dependable.

Faults:

My A/C went out due to the computer system failure at 30K miles.

One piston had to be replaced and the bottom half of the engine rebuilt at 35K.

I have had multiple computer system problems and the entire fuse box replaced.

I have had to completely replace breaks and rotors x 1 and brake pads again 30k miles later (I don't ride the brakes).

Now I face over $300 (parts cost) for one wheel bearing on the drivers side (not to include repair costs).

General Comments:

This car is a money pit. If it was not paid for I would trade it in. I now know why Oldsmobile went out of business. The quality of this car is a 0/10. I would not give it away. By the way, try to trade it in and see what the dealership will offer you!!! I ended up paying it off because of how low the trade in value is. I will drive it until it dies and that would be too much longer.

Wow, I'm up to 120K on my Alero. And sure enough, right at about 100K the dashboard vinyl buckled as well at the defroster. However, I've ignored my a/c dial... the first 2 settings haven't worked for a long time. I've been told that it's the connections behind the knob, but I haven't felt like digging into it. Doesn't really bother me.

The failed A/C isn't the knob its the blower motor resistor. Its under the passenger side dash. Its black, about 2" x 1/2" x 3' in size. Its directly under and connected to a large (about the size of a basketball) black plastic tank, Get another one at a junk yard ($5).

2000 Oldsmobile Alero GX 2.5 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

No more GM cars. Next time, I am buying a Honda or Toyota

Faults:

I am on my third set of brakes and rotors. The car's fan quit working at levels 1,2,and 3. The service engine, anti lock brake, and track off lights keep coming on. The fabric on the dash is no longer nice and tight. The steering wheel makes a terrible grinding noise when making turns. While driving with the windows down, the wheel/hub caps make a terrible noise.

General Comments:

Although the car looks okay, I am truly disappointed with GM and Oldsmobile. I cannot believe that I had problems even before it was paid off. Now that it is paid off, I cross my fingers every time before driving it. I just hate putting money in to that car.
