2000 Oldsmobile Alero 4 cylinder. from North America

For the most part, reliable with quirky, mostly minor, inconvenient problems

I've had to replace the power window motor and regulator twice on the front driver's side and once on the passenger side.

The motor on my power driver's seat went out.

The first and second level of the interior fan doesn't work.

My "Service Engine Soon" light has been on for a while and after hooking it up to the computer it said it was miss firing which I was told was the Oxygen sensor.

My blinkers sometimes "click" so fast, it's a sustained buzz.

My rear defrost no longer works.

I have to get at least new brake pads, if not rotors, yearly.

The dome light falls out if slightly touched.

During the summer, when I have the air conditioner running through the panel vents, I have a hard time getting a CD to play because of the placement of the middle vent. The CD player gets hot while the vent blows the cold air causing the CD to fog up, a slight design flaw on Oldsmobile's part.

And finally, the dash is peeling up from the sun or whatever.

General Comments:

Even though my Alero has several problems, overall she's been pretty reliable with getting me from point A to point B. I've put 100,000 miles on my baby in the 5 years I've had her and I have to realize and hope my fellow Alero owners realize that it's a car, and things are going to go wrong and break. You can search any make/model vehicle and there will be pages of complaints. Just take care of your car and it should take care of you!

I have 2,4 Alero, and I love the ride it gives.

I never had any American cars before this one.

The only thing that annoys me is the trouble with turning signals, sometimes those refuse to work, otherwise it's a good car.

I had my doubts before buying, but after I did a test drive with it, I just loved it, smooth and nice ride.

The car is sleek, but has way too many problems

Paint started chipping on the hood and side of the car very soon after buying it.

Trunk does not close properly anymore.

Radiator cap had to be replaced.

Service vehicle soon, change oil and low tire pressure lights came on at about 10,000 miles for no reason, even though there is nothing wrong.

Inside lamp fell out of its holder and will not go back into place.

General Comments:

Just a horrible horrible car. I wish I had never bought it. It seems like no matter what repairs you make, something else always goes wrong. I will never buy another GMC car again.

Since I bought this car I replaced the calipers, rotors, brakes ($500). I realize cheap brakes ruin a good car, this car has spunk with a supercharger, but seems that the brake problem will be costly along the road... ever since I quit driving in the rain, I realize my brakes last longer... if you maintain this car with frequent checkups it can go a long way.

General Comments:

I find this car looks pretty sharp when you customize the wheels and put tint on the window.

Good gas mileage.

I will never purchase another vehicle from GM

I had to replace the fuel pump about 6 months after I purchased the car. It since then has gone out again.

The driver side window motor has been replaced 3 times.

The dash as come unglued, as well as the plastic on the doors below the windows.

The gear shift broke off less than 1 year after I got it.

The blinkers and hazard lights do not work anymore.
