2001 Oldsmobile Alero from North America

Summary:

Junk

Faults:

Third time replacing LF wheel bearing in 30000 miles. Also replaced the RF wheel bearing once and the front struts are now going for the second time in less than 20000 miles.

Should have gotten rid of this dog years ago. My bad.

General Comments:

Money pit.

2001 Oldsmobile Alero from North America

Faults:

I have 2001 Olds Alero and have had a lot of the same problems so I won't list everything. But, I thought it was just me, especially with the brakes and rotors. I thought I was too hard on the brakes.

Recently the security light has been going off and on. About a month ago my car wouldn't start and my mechanic said it was in security mode as if it was getting broken into.

But just a few days ago my driver side window fell in and the clips shattered. From what I'm reading it sounds like I'm going to have to get a new window regulator. I was going to call around at junk yards just for the plastic clips. The mechanic called them gliders. Any other suggestions on how to get them without spending a lot of money?

2001 Oldsmobile Alero GLS from North America

Summary:

The cheap car came out expensive

Faults:

I have experienced all the problems that have been mentioned by other owners except for the windows, because they are manual, and my dashboard, has not yet begun to shrink.

I really can't say how much money I've put in this car, but it is a lot.

2001 Oldsmobile Alero GL1 2.4L V4 from North America

Summary:

I want my Nissan back!

Faults:

1. Chronic brake problems. (Brakes squeal after 30-60 days after replacement, then are silent. This resulted in etched rotors at the last replacement, after which the cycle continues. Brakes and rotors replaced last month are squealing.)

2. Pass-Lock system engages and requires a reset without cause.

3. Blower will not function on low speeds.

4. Driver seat deformed under normal circumstances (normal weight person, normal usage) when car was 2 years old.

5. Labels on radio buttons rubbed off.

6. Driver's side window disengaged from regulator due to shattered clips.

7. Cruise control will not stay engaged.

8. Auxiliary "lighter" falls out of dashboard, used twice.

9. Transmission trouble at 116K miles - undiagnosed at this time. Visible leak at the pan.

10. Rear cup holder assembly will not hold a cup without falling apart.

11. Fuel pump needed to be replaced after 100K miles.

12. Coil housing needed to be replaced after 106K miles.

General Comments:

Nice looking, smooth riding car (until recently).

Nice alerts for low washer fluid, low tire pressure, low coolant, and the like. No "Door Ajar" alert, however.

Large trunk, 60/40 fold-down rear seats allow for carrying more than the average family sedan.

2001 Oldsmobile Alero from North America

Faults:

I went to row down my window on my drivers side to throw away some trash and the window fell completely down and won't go back up. I hear it trying to work, but nothing.

I also have my check engine light on my tire pressure low light on and another light on.

I bought this car summer of 2006 it's a 2001 alero and I'm wishing we had gotten the other vehicle we were looking at. I am so disappointed in everything that keeps going wrong on this car.

I also had to get new brake pads and rotors right after getting it and the guy said it was common on aleros.

I wish they would recall the window motor I've seen so many people with problems how can they not.
