2000 Peugeot 206 GTi-6 2.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Great car, but expensive to own

Faults:

Remote locking worked intermittently, it wouldn't lock and the spare key only set the alarm off.

If started from warm it used to stall / cut out when the clutch was fully depressed again (IE at the lights)

General Comments:

The car was very quick, but you have to be careful when pushing it to the limit.

Fuel costs were high.

Leather trim lovely.

CD player had awful sound quality.

Super car, but sold because it was due a major service + tax + first MOT + insurance (I don't own a bank to pay for all that!!)

2000 Peugeot 206 GTi 2.0 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

UNRELIABLE - What is going to fail next?

Faults:

Entire exhaust system including catalytic converter required replacing after 1 and a half years at a cost of £900.

Gearbox failed after 3 years and only 45,000 miles at a cost of nearly £2000.

General Comments:

Peugeot inform me unscheduled repairs such as these are normal.

I get better reliability out of my washing machine.

Absolutely abysmal!

2000 Peugeot 206 XA 1.9 diesel from Portugal

Summary:

Not a bad car, but ruined by too many little things

Faults:

Wiper washer deposit cracked at 6,000 km. No explanation for that. It was not replaced under warranty.

Air conditioner thermostat failed at 15,000 km. That was repaired under warranty.

Front shock absorbers replaced at 60,000 km, together with a new set of tyres. I've chosen the Monroe GasMatic instead of the original Peugeot. The car became much better.

Exhaust pipe cracked and was replaced at 78,000 km. Usual thing, according to the dealer.

Front brake disks replaced at 90,000km.

Air conditioner engine stopped working at 96,000 km.

Some rattle noise from the rear suspension appears a few days before I changed the car, I didn't repair it.

General Comments:

This two seats version has very roomy and ergonomic front seats and a quite big luggage space.

The front suspension seemed too soft for the car weight. Improved with the shocks absorbers change, but the springs are too soft as well.

The transmission relations are too long, so the car has no vivacity, it lacks power when going up hill.

Most of the Portuguese dealers are bad organized and are unpleasant.

2000 Peugeot 206 LX 1.4 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Great car, rubbish dealership!

Faults:

After 4 month front passenger seat had to be replaced.

Rapid ticking noise when air conditioning was and revs above 5000.

Windscreen cracked after 18 months.

General Comments:

One of the nicest looking cars around.

Good level of kit on the LX model. It came with twin airbags, electric mirrors and windows, central locking and air conditioning.

Nice interior, although long journeys are a pain as the seats could be better.

Dealer service is (in my experience) appalling. After car was in for service alloy wheels were scratched and a puncture had materialised after I drove the car to the dealer.

Bonnet prone to stone chips.

2000 Peugeot 206 LX 1.1 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Nice run around - bit boring

Faults:

Break light remaining on permanently - happened twice.

General Comments:

Not very good at initial acceleration, but runs quite well at top end (when on motorway).

Love the car, but it's become too popular and I'm sick of seeing them.

2000 Peugeot 206 GTi 2.0 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

The seats are so uncomfortable to stop you falling asleep

Faults:

A centre section of the exhaust pipe keeps working its way loose.

Washer jets keep on blocking up.

Exhaust pipe bangs against the bumper.

General Comments:

If you want to buy a real performance hatch, this car is not for you.

If you want a car that will cripple you with its poor seats, driving position and sheer tedium, this IS the car for you.

2000 Peugeot 206 GTi 2.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

I would like the car if it did not have all the problems, and the bad customer support from Peugeot

Faults:

Only 1 wheel went Bald, all the rest were OK...

Manifold needed to be changed 3 times and is still not right.

Airbag warning light keeps going on.

Alarm keeps going off.

Car squeaks when driving in a straight line.

General Comments:

It could be such a performance rich, responsive car if not for the build quality, I blame a large majority of the faults on the dealer.

I have had the car for 6 months and it has been in the garage 5 times, the service from the garage (Beechwood of Coventry) has been disgraceful, they have absolutely zero customer support or respect.
