2000 Peugeot 206 GTi 2.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Easy to drive, perfect size, unhelpful dealers

Faults:

Drivers door refused to close after 500 miles. Car won't stay locked, temperamental fault.

Alarm goes off every now and then (usually 3AM).

Warning noise that you have left your headlights on works intermittently.

The dealers seem reluctant to fix anything.

General Comments:

The car handles fantastically and looks great. The pedals are easy to use with no obstructions (like wheel arches or proximity). The size is perfect for what I wanted.

I have a 206 1.6L GLX The alarm was going off when it wanted to.

Strange they seem to go off at 3.00AM.

The dealer finally changed all the ultra-sonics at a grand cost of £28 for all the bits and it seems OK now.

I noticed that you did not fill in the dealer service part. Is this because you have not had been back to the dealer yet?

I have a 1.6 GLX myself and am pleased with it, so far I have found that the dealer service could be a lot better.

2000 Peugeot 206 HDI DTurbo 2.0 HDI diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

High mileage user's GTi. Buy one

Faults:

Only small faults with this one... the last one was not so good.

The car came free with a rattle at the back which the dealer resolved almost promptly.

The ABS system used to keep coming on far too easily, and at really low (>20mph) speeds. Dealer had the car for a weekend and then gave it back to me saying there was no problem - mysteriously the problem is now fixed and the ECU was changed??

General Comments:

I think that the car is one of the most stylish small cars available today - and providing you get a "good" one out of the factory (in Coventry, UK) then you are set. Although sometimes the build quality isn't great (I've had a few on hire, and one before this one!).

The DTurbo HDI is a superb engine - I think of it as a High Mileage GTI because it really can fly - you can ignore Peugeot's stated 112 MPH, I've had mine at 126 - albeit round a race track! Very very torquey engine.

The sports pak and sporty looking add ons you can get make the car look amazing - I found a photo of my car when it was delivered yesterday and it looks so crap without the SP kit.

The only really bad point is DEALERS. My local dealer tries hard - but just really seem to want to get rid of you as soon as they can, and are very unco-operative about courtesy cars. Considering I've spent about £2000 on sports kits you'd think they would care more. I tried other dealers, some in Coventry, some in Stratford, but they all appear to be the same - disappointing compared to the car!!

2000 Peugeot 206 LX 1.4 from UK and Ireland

Faults:

When filling up with petrol, it never goes to a full tank.

Car constantly cuts out, at least 5 times in the middle lane of the M23.

Car is very noisy on the engine, sounds like someone banging a hammer against it.

General Comments:

Lovely car, nice to drive when it's not cutting out etc.

Shame once you've paid your money and it goes wrong, the service dept don't want to know.

I've had a 206GLX for 18 months. The car is really fun to drive. The dealership has been really good (Southport 2000). Nothing has gone wrong with the car.

The handling around corners is impressive and the acceleration speed on the 1.6 engine is pretty nippy... but then again I've never owned anything with a monster engine!

I will be changing it soon and will consider the new Peugeot 307 (a bit more boot room).
