2002 Peugeot 307 XR 1,4 petrol from France

Summary:

A beauty with nasty nature

Faults:

The car has been back 12 times during 5 months in the garage.

Starter motor replaced at 500 km.

The ignition failed 6 times. Car towed away 3 times.

Indicator switch replaced.

Sometimes doors lock themselves during driving.

Center console and driver's door rattle.

Foot carpet detached from passenger's foot-well.

Left front light leaks in heavy rain.

General Comments:

This is a very beautiful and comfortable car with a lot of space.

The handling is good. The performance is medium.

The fuel consumption is high.

I would never recommend this car to anyone.

This car is absolutely unreliable and has low build quality.

Dealer was not able to solve most of the problems. It seems to be that the diagnostics computer has the same quality as the car itself.

I am totally disappointed and I will try to get rid of it.

This is not a car.

2002 Peugeot 307 XSi 2.0 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A good family car for parents who like a bit of speed but are not yet ready to join the people mover

Faults:

In the first few months of receiving the vehicle, I had to return it to the garage on 3 occasions for a CATALYST fault.

The drivers car mat has also come away from the foot well and you are unable to screw it back into place as the plastic screws do not fit properly.

Alloy wheels have pitted already after 5 months.

General Comments:

Having cancelled an order for a Volkswagen Golf GTi in order to purchase The Car of The Year, I was disappointed at having a recurring diagnostics fault so early on, especially as it took 3 attempts for the dealer to rectify the fault. However, touch wood, all seems fine and dandy and I have to say the car is extremely quick and handles very well. The cabin is well designed and solid and the leather seats are a dream to be sat in, especially on longer journeys. Aesthetically, the car isn't as pleasing as I'd hoped, but I've had all the extras you can get put on and have to admit, it does look pretty smart. Am also surprised at how non economic the vehicle is to run, appears to drink petrol like nobodies business. I can see that some may find the 307 too bulky and not as pleasing as the 306, personally if it wasn't for the fact I had to upgrade to accommodate a child I would have preferred to have stayed with my 206 which not only had the looks, but the power and pleasurable hard drive too.

2002 Peugeot 307 XS 2.0 from Finland

Summary:

Waste of money and time

Faults:

Engine does not start. 4 times towed away.

Doors and the alarm system unlock themselves during parking.

Dealer's computer does not notifies any problem.

Sometimes the instruments and lights shut down for some seconds.

Tail lights leak in snow and rain.

Central console rattles.

The dealer has never fixed the starter and the electrical problems.

General Comments:

The 307 is a comfortable spacious car. The power is enough, but the handling is not the best. Fuel consumption is high and seems to be that the board computer does not notify the right values of consumption.

The car has an attractive design, a lot of equipments inclusive space and an attractive price.

The 307 has problems with the basic functionality of a car. It is an unreliable, non-quality product.

2002 Peugeot 307 XSE 2.0 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Overall a great car; not surprised it won Europen Car of the Year

Faults:

Rattle in dash near radio fixed by dealer.

Fuel economy is an issue. Haven't been able to get more than 12L/100 km in city driving, although dealer expects this to improve.

General Comments:

The car is deceptively roomy. It is wider than you imagine. In fact, much to my suprise, it turned out to be wider than my previous car, a 1998 Mazda 626.

This is a great car, with lots of features e.g. auto lights, wipers, 5 CD sound system with auto volume, air-conditioned glove box, ABS,Alloy wheels etc etc.

The car has excellent handling and acceleration. The ride is slightly firm in city conditions. Noise levels, both road noise and wind noise, are exceptionally low, with allows very relaxed highway driving.
