2002 Peugeot 307 XSE review from Australia and New Zealand

"Nice drive when it's new, but this unfortunately doesn't last"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Indicator stalk replaced at 40,000kms due to problems as described in many other postings.

Premature tyre wear - all four tyres needed replacement at 35,000kms despite regular swapping from front to back, and very gentle driving.

Front discs replaced at 40,000kms. Dealer claimed this was due to 'wear and tear', cost of $1,200.

Wheel bearings replaced at 55,000kms. The car had developed a loud rolling noise from about 40,000kms.

Since the wheel bearings were replaced a loud scraping sound is audible when braking from low speeds and in stop/go traffic. After three visits to the car dealer the problem continues.

At 56,000kms height lever of driver's set fell off.

At 58,000kms wheel bearings need again replacement as according to the dealer the scraping noise is caused by faulty bearings.

General comments?

The 307 is nice to drive when it isn't sitting in the dealer's workshop, with very good handling and good fuel economy.

However, overall I am disappointed with the car, not only because of the obvious drive train problems as described above, but also because the built quality is poor. As the car gets older, rattling of various interior parts is increasingly annoying.
