I purchased a 96 Neon about three years ago. It was a good car at first, but now I can't keep up with how much money I had to put in the car to keep it running. To start off, I have the same problem with my trunk leaking water. Not only is my trunked soaked after it rains, I keep a smelly lake on the floor of my back seat. I have water in my taillights also. Water also leaks through the windows.

My a/c used to get really cold WHEN it did work. I've had an oil leak coming from who knows since I had the car. I had to replace transmission hoses numerous times. My radiator fans' harness was burnt out once. The headlight assembly breaks easily. The headlight covers gets really dull looking, and the seals around them dry rots easily. I no longer have a high beam.

My engine and battery light stays on forever. My interior light doesn't always come on when the driver's door is open, My car started running hot. I replaced water pumps and thermostats severaltimes which still hasn't made a change. My car jerks, and makes a crazy sound if I pull off too fast.

Oh, and I almost forgot that lately my car has been continusiouly been smoking from the tailpipe. I'm hoping that I don't have to replace my head gasket for the second time.

Let me tell you about my neon. I bought a 1995 Plymouth Neon Sport in 1998. I have had so many problems with this car, it's hard to decide where to start. The air conditioning has never worked. The head gasket has blown, then the engine blew because the oil all fell out while I was driving on Interstate 90 near Chicago in Jan. of 2000, which almost got me killed. The brake make some kind of musical noise every time I brake when it's wet out. The oxygen sensor has gone out. Now today my radiator needs to replaced. The thermostat had to be replaced in 2001. The water pump was replaced in 2002. My fuel pump was replaced. The solenoid was replaced. Things just keep falling off off this car. The paint by the front of the hood is peeling and then the hood is rusting away. The window seal isn't there so if you lock your keys in the car you can stick your arm in between the window and the car frame and open the door. The list is lengthy. Need I say anymore? I probably could of bought a Mercedes or BMW for what I have spent on this car.

I also own a 95 Plymouth Neon ACR and I have to say when I bought the car two years ago I loved it. Now after two years I hate it. Here is why:

Purchased in fall of '02.

Spring of '03 replaced fuel pump, water pump, O2 sensor, throttle body, throttle position sensor, passenger door glass, stereo, alternator, starter and battery, inner & outer tie rods both sides.

Nov of '03 motor left me stranded by blowing: Timing Chain, Head Gasket, Timing Chain Tensioner, Valve Cover gasket, 4th valve, all 4 plugs...

Dec of '03 got motor fixed and on my way home from shop I blew a bearing right through the transmission case (literally)

Car repaired in Feb '04.

March '04 driver door glass replaced.

June '04 driver wiper assembly replaced.

Aug '04 now I currently have a large knock in my engine that mechanics say is a sticky lifter as well as a bad rod or bearing, also going out now is the throwout bearing for clutch and often my wipers will work on their own as well as tach reading erratically.

Note trunk has leaked since day one as have both doors.

I grew up with Chrysler as my mother was a die hard fan... now I know why I always wanted to stick with Ford.

Bought my Neon two years ago. I have had the leaking into the trunk problem and a stereo that will work for a few months then quit for a few months. Outside of that though it has been a real little peach of a car. I put on a lot of miles and have gotten by with routine maintenance.

Dec 30th

I own two neons both that are fairly new, a 2000 and a 2001.

My biggest complaint is the fact that my trunks leak like it is going out of style. I get puddles in my back floor boards and in the trunk, not a good time when you are trying to sell your cars. I don't know if the company failed to fix this little problem during construction of the cars or what, but I will never buy another neon.

Help! My 95 neon is killing me... It will not go like it normally should. It only goes when I give it full throttle. O2 sensor changed and it still does it.

Pmarado@neo.rr.com email me any help please.

I own a 95 neon it has 157,000 miles on it only problem I've had with needed a new starter and fuel pump at 150,000, trunk doesn't leak although may have been fixed before I got it, the struts are crap, the awesome scratch in the driver window that I know you all have also :), head gasket is fine had been replaced, the crappy plastic lenses for the headlights suck, I've owned it since 62,000 miles with 157,000 miles it still has lots of power. seems like a lot of you just got really crappy ones (haha) oh well. Nocks on wood.

I have a 95 neon, but I like mine. its had its problems, but they were all stupid little things that were easily fixed. All electrical. I advanced the timing 1 notch so now it has a lot of pick up.. he he.. but the one head scratcher I had was that, it would stall going down the road. We checked everything and we saw the fuel fuse was blown, we replaced it, a mile up the road does it again. All the way back to my house. Then I put it up on the lift to see if something was wrong, started it up and it would run for hours. As soon as you put it on the ground the fuse would blow again. Then after hours and 1/2 tank of gas. We saw that the O2 Sensor was hitting the front axle and causing the fuse to short out. When it was in the air it wasn't touching anything and didn't stall... solution, we tie tied the sob up so it wouldn't touch the axle. Every problem with the car is stupid and fixable.

I own a 1995 neon. I have replaced brakes several times, head gasket once, 02 sensor 3 times, oil sending unit (which looks like wasn't the problem, as oil light came back on after 3 weeks), radio doesn't work, air conditioner quit, rear defroster keeps quiting, engine noise, speedometer reads 0 a lot, gas gage works sometimes. Most of which happened after warranty was expired. I will not ever buy a dodge again. This car has cost me lots of money and time. Why are they allowing this, knowing all the faults wrong with this car???
