I have a 95 Neon and the light CHECK ENGINE has been on for the past six months and the mechanic tells me I need a new computer which is a minimum of $1,000.00, has anyone had that problem before with their Neon?
Thanks Donna.
Let me tell you about my neon. I bought a 1995 Plymouth Neon Sport in 1998. I have had so many problems with this car, it's hard to decide where to start. The air conditioning has never worked. The head gasket has blown, then the engine blew because the oil all fell out while I was driving on Interstate 90 near Chicago in Jan. of 2000, which almost got me killed. The brake make some kind of musical noise every time I brake when it's wet out. The oxygen sensor has gone out. Now today my radiator needs to replaced. The thermostat had to be replaced in 2001. The water pump was replaced in 2002. My fuel pump was replaced. The solenoid was replaced. Things just keep falling off off this car. The paint by the front of the hood is peeling and then the hood is rusting away. The window seal isn't there so if you lock your keys in the car you can stick your arm in between the window and the car frame and open the door. The list is lengthy. Need I say anymore? I probably could of bought a Mercedes or BMW for what I have spent on this car.
I also own a 95 Plymouth Neon ACR and I have to say when I bought the car two years ago I loved it. Now after two years I hate it. Here is why:
Purchased in fall of '02.
Spring of '03 replaced fuel pump, water pump, O2 sensor, throttle body, throttle position sensor, passenger door glass, stereo, alternator, starter and battery, inner & outer tie rods both sides.
Nov of '03 motor left me stranded by blowing: Timing Chain, Head Gasket, Timing Chain Tensioner, Valve Cover gasket, 4th valve, all 4 plugs...
Dec of '03 got motor fixed and on my way home from shop I blew a bearing right through the transmission case (literally)
Car repaired in Feb '04.
March '04 driver door glass replaced.
June '04 driver wiper assembly replaced.
Aug '04 now I currently have a large knock in my engine that mechanics say is a sticky lifter as well as a bad rod or bearing, also going out now is the throwout bearing for clutch and often my wipers will work on their own as well as tach reading erratically.
Note trunk has leaked since day one as have both doors.
I grew up with Chrysler as my mother was a die hard fan... now I know why I always wanted to stick with Ford.
Bought my Neon two years ago. I have had the leaking into the trunk problem and a stereo that will work for a few months then quit for a few months. Outside of that though it has been a real little peach of a car. I put on a lot of miles and have gotten by with routine maintenance.

I bought my 95 dodge neon sport in July 2004, and it drove amazing. tiny bit of rust which was an easy fix, ABS sensor was screwed up, head gasket was already replaced. it continued to drive perfect until one day I got off the highway, turned and started accelerating. my tach just shot up while I barely went anywhere. now I have this sticky spot in the peddle where if I push through it this happens again. it also downshift very hard. but if I don't push through that sticky spot the car works fine minus the whole no power and no acceleration, if anyone knows about this please contact me (bedorec12345@yahoo.com). the car also has a bad leaky oil pan, ac dosen't work (might just need recharging though) the car's jerky and the peddles vibrate, I never had the leaky trunk problem, but my radio would die then come back. fixed it by checking the connections in the back. timing belt cover broken, needed new spark plugs, brake/gas lines, gages are iffy, mirror supports broke, needed cat/muffler.left turn signal comes on when I brake sometimes. engine making noises. high beams cut out once, brakes are rough plus lots more. only serious problem right now is the tranny and oil pan, drives nice.
I have a 96 neon and I to have the leaky trunk. I had the engine come on for the past year cause of problem after problem. First it was the 02 sensor. Then it would stall out after I traveled long distances. I had the filter replaced and it still stalled out on me. I got to get the fuel pump replaced. The guy told me it would be $500, is that right?

I own a 96 Plymouth Neon which was bought used. I also have had the trunk smell after the rain and water in my left tail light, which has caused the bulb to burn out several times. My O2 sensor is going out. I am about to replace my AC belt that just broke. I had someone put some freon in my system for the 2004 summer period and now in the fall the AC already isn't running that cold. My main problem though is that the car sits so low that either my wife or I have bottomed out and now I need to replace the oil pan because the drain plug is now bent up into the oil pan. But before all of this it was a great running car.

I own two neons both that are fairly new, a 2000 and a 2001.
My biggest complaint is the fact that my trunks leak like it is going out of style. I get puddles in my back floor boards and in the trunk, not a good time when you are trying to sell your cars. I don't know if the company failed to fix this little problem during construction of the cars or what, but I will never buy another neon.

I have 1995 neon and a 1997 neon and they either one are running 1997 as a blow head gasket and the 1995 dies all the time and now it won't even run. we replace fuel pump pressure regulator and it ran for one day and die the next it won't start back. I think they are junk.
Help! My 95 neon is killing me... It will not go like it normally should. It only goes when I give it full throttle. O2 sensor changed and it still does it.
Pmarado@neo.rr.com email me any help please.
I own a 95 neon it has 157,000 miles on it only problem I've had with needed a new starter and fuel pump at 150,000, trunk doesn't leak although may have been fixed before I got it, the struts are crap, the awesome scratch in the driver window that I know you all have also :), head gasket is fine had been replaced, the crappy plastic lenses for the headlights suck, I've owned it since 62,000 miles with 157,000 miles it still has lots of power. seems like a lot of you just got really crappy ones (haha) oh well. Nocks on wood.
I have a 95 neon, but I like mine. its had its problems, but they were all stupid little things that were easily fixed. All electrical. I advanced the timing 1 notch so now it has a lot of pick up.. he he.. but the one head scratcher I had was that, it would stall going down the road. We checked everything and we saw the fuel fuse was blown, we replaced it, a mile up the road does it again. All the way back to my house. Then I put it up on the lift to see if something was wrong, started it up and it would run for hours. As soon as you put it on the ground the fuse would blow again. Then after hours and 1/2 tank of gas. We saw that the O2 Sensor was hitting the front axle and causing the fuse to short out. When it was in the air it wasn't touching anything and didn't stall... solution, we tie tied the sob up so it wouldn't touch the axle. Every problem with the car is stupid and fixable.
I have a 1995 Neon that was a great little car when I first got it. But here's all the stuff that's gone wrong with it.
Replaced the head gasket, paint is peeling in multiple places (and seems to worsen in rain - a dime sized peel enlarged to a basketball size last time it rained), turn signals come on while braking, brakes squeal when pressed (even after just being replaced), speedometer is usually stuck at zero, sometimes stuck at 50, odometer works when it wants to, leaky trunk, seals around windows don't work great so there's a nice breezy sound when I drive, the engine has a nice knocking sound coming from the right-hand side (which nobody can figure out what's causing it), radio will sometimes stop working for months at a time, then suddenly come back on, cigarette lighter has never worked, and I had to replace all my spark plug connectors after a really bad rainstorm because they got all gummed up and would cause the car to lurch (I guess it was misfiring??).
I own a 1995 neon. I have replaced brakes several times, head gasket once, 02 sensor 3 times, oil sending unit (which looks like wasn't the problem, as oil light came back on after 3 weeks), radio doesn't work, air conditioner quit, rear defroster keeps quiting, engine noise, speedometer reads 0 a lot, gas gage works sometimes. Most of which happened after warranty was expired. I will not ever buy a dodge again. This car has cost me lots of money and time. Why are they allowing this, knowing all the faults wrong with this car???
I had my neon for about 4 months and have spend more than what the car is really worth. My two main problems now are that:
1) I have a oil leak? I can see where the oil is coming from and it's not from the valve cover gasket or at least I think it's not?
2) My a/c only shoots out hot air. I turn on the cold air and I get hot air. So I turn on the hot air and still get hot air?
Could someone out there please give me some help on what I could do to fix these problems. I can be reached at Chunkylover04@msn.com.
