1992 Pontiac Grand Am SE 3.3 V6 from North America

Summary:

Great performance for a great price

Faults:

Nothing really has gone wrong, other than needed new rotors, and sway bars, and a slight leak from the transmission pan.

Also the drivers seat is a bit pushed in on the back. Leaked a little bit in the rain, and sometimes a bit of a puddle would form on the drivers side floor - very hard to find leak.

General Comments:

I guess the V6 in this car really gives it a lot of punch, my tires aren't the best (bridgestones still with plenty of tread) - and in the rain about 50% of the time I go the tires spin from the power, it just wants to go like a rocket.

Also, the handling is very firm, the steering is tight.

Gas mileage is not the best, but that's probably only because I like to drive it hard. Its just too much fun to leave rice burners in the dust.

The battery went right after I got it.

1992 Pontiac Grand Am GT 3.3 Fuel Injected from North America

Summary:

I loved my first car

Faults:

Check gauges/check oil lights flicker after braking quickly. Check gauges light flickers randomly. (All due to electrical problems.)

Lumbar support knob totally useless (user error--my sister broke it).

Starts fine on dry days. On humid days car stalls upon first start up. Starts fine in the winter but very long warm up time.

Blew a gasket at ~100,000 miles.

Tilt steering wheel broken. Swung up and down (I don't know how my sister drove it, but that's besides the point) until it was fixed, so that it only had three settings. I broke the middle one, the one that I drove at, so it's only Very High and Very Low.

Coupe style, so the passenger side slides forward to accommodate passengers in the back. Unfortunately, it sometimes slides forward if I brake too fast. One time it happened with someone IN the passengers' seat (no damage caused, but it was harrowing).

General Comments:

Even though the Grand Am is often maligned, I enjoyed the ownership experience. The car was quick and fun to drive. We never experienced any problems with the engine. Just the wiring, transmission, exhaust... but I digress. As a teenager with no car experience, this car taught me a lot. I became familiar with all aspects of car repair and maintenance. As others have noted, the factory speakers were excellent. Really, what more does a teenager need than a quick car and a loud stereo?

1992 Pontiac Grand Am SE 2.3 SOHC Quad-4 from North America

Summary:

Best car I've ever had

Faults:

Engine controller fried at 200,000.

Eats tires like there's no tomorrow.

Rust seems to be a continuing problem by the wheel wells and on the deck lid.

General Comments:

I bought this vehicle for 50 U.S. dollars, and I would definitely buy another one. It has been in 5 deer accidents and she's still going. I even named her Jeannie.

The seats are awesome. A friend commented that they "feel like movie theater seats"

Summary:

A road Hugger

Faults:

Sensor problems, front left headlight burn out, brake failure.

General Comments:

This car handles the road great, I have had previous problems with sensors etc., but it is very good on fuel, and it does not have a engine that creates problems, it handles our alberta roads like a breeze and has a great body on it.

Summary:

A quality Purchase

Faults:

Engine Sensor problem in 97, winsheild cracked, taillight got smashed, driver side rear tire blow out, smashed bumper.

General Comments:

This car is what I was looking for when I bought it, and it has taken my all over the u.s! It has a very comfortable ride to it and It goes for a long ways before you start seeing problems with it. If you are looking for generally smaller car with enough power to do a couple stupid things, then I would suggest this little fireball!
