1996 Pontiac Grand Am SE V-6 3.1L V6 from North America

Summary:

A low maintenance car if cared for and driven correctly

Faults:

Driver's side power window regulator broke and needed replaced, the trunk light flickers on and off, and I also had to replace the rotors and calipers on the front and the calipers on the rear.

General Comments:

I haven't had any engine problems, I think that if you treat your car well, the only problems should be from usage and defects, and if your only have 50,000 miles on your car, your shouldn't really have problems, on any car. Great car, handles well, easy to take care of. The car is great for me, cause I only paid 6,200 for it and I have only spent about 600 dollars in repairs that were needed. If your in high school or college, it is good for you cause the maintenance is low and your saving your money.

My car is having a miss in the motor.

1996 Pontiac Grand Am SE 3.1 from North America

Summary:

After 90,000 miles the car is just falling apart.

Faults:

Ever since I have owned this car I have had to replace the alternator about every six months. Even when I took it to the dealership they couldn't figure out what would cause them to go bad so fast. Ever since the car has reached 100,000 miles everything has gone wrong. I have had to replace all of the rocker arms and pushrods. They all were messed up and were causing problems. The plastic tanks on the ends of the radiator have broken and had to be replaced. The water pump went soon after that. Now I can't get my key out of the ignition because it won't turn all the way off so I can get it out.

General Comments:

Besides the alternator problem the car was pretty good up to about 90,000 miles.

1996 Pontiac Grand Am SE 2.4L Quad 4 from North America

Summary:

Nice GM product, but not for tall people

Faults:

I had to replace an idler wheel because one of the bearings had failed.

I replaced the Power Train Control Module because every once in a while my instrument panel would do the funky chicken and the car would stall. Fortunately this repair was covered under the 8Yr/130,000Km Emissions Warranty.

I replaced the wheel bearing in the front on the drivers side.

Unfortunately the struts in the front are worn, however, they are not critical to repair at the moment.

I had to replace the bearings in the Transmission because one of them failed. Though this could have been my fault. :-)

General Comments:

The 2.4L Quad 4 has lots of pep, and gets great fuel economy. I love the car I am just too tall for it.

GM got the design right with this car in my opinion. I like cars with smooth sleek lines.

1996 Pontiac Grand Am SE 3.1 V6 from North America

Summary:

A sporty family car that can fit 5 people

Faults:

So far the only problem that I have had with it is having to replace the factory brake pads and rodders that were on it.

General Comments:

I love the Grand AM it is very sporty and family like at the same time. My husband, my two kids and myself fit in it very comfortably.

It is also fast which is what I love about it.

It gets great gas millage about 250 miles to a tank of gas and I have a bad habit of hot rodding everywhere I go.

My next new car will be a grand am also.

All my friends have them also and have not had any major problems with them.

I would say that it is a very good value for the price!
