"Horrible car, absolute nightmare to own"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I had to replace the head and gasket.

I had to replace the valve cover gaskets.

I had to replace the thermostat, radiator, upper radiator hose, temp sensor, and cooling fan.

I had to rip the carpet out, due to a leak in the dashboard. Everytime it would rain, the carpet would get wet, thus mold grew.

Replaced the muffler.

Replaced the Air Filter.

My mirror got vandalized and cracked, and I had to pay 50 dollars to buy a new mirror, and cracked the new one installing it.

The catalytic converter is going bad.

The alignment cannot be fixed, because the parts are too rusty.

Had to replace the passenger side ball joint.

The passenger side cv shaft is on its way to death.

The brakes lock up for no reason at any speed. On dry pavement going 75 they locked up on me once.

General comments?

This car is a total nightmare to own and to drive. Do not buy this for your first car, or you will for sure get in an accident. This car has the worst cooling system ever invented. And has brought me to the decision that I will never buy another pontiac as long as I live.

Let me get this straight. You bought a used-up car, eleven years old with 193,000 miles on it, and you're surprised when parts wear out, rust out or break? Cars are not designed to last forever, and poor maintenance can cause even a well-designed car to fail prematurely. I suspect that the previous owner of your car didn't bother to do an occasional cooling system flush and fill, as neglecting this service will cause cooling system parts to fail early.

Blaming Pontiac for the problems with your Grand Am doesn't seem entirely fair to me. In my opinion, the prior owner or owners who put close to 200,000 miles on the car without maintaining it deserve much more of the blame than Pontiac does.

Let's see: The car was 11 years old and had over 190,000 miles on it!

What did you expect???

A lifetime warranty, perhaps???

You can't be serious. The car is 11 years old, going on 200,000 and you are surprised it has issues? How is that Pontiac's fault? Any 11 year old car is liable to have similar problems.

I got my Grand Am with 70,000 miles on it and it is a total money pit, doesn't matter how many miles, the Grand Am is very poor quality, and don't get me started on the water leaking inside every time it rains. Buy Ford.
