Relating to tire size 185/50 R15, that is the best tyre size I could figure of.

As per sports rear muffler, the gas will be released more freely. Not much fuel consumption unless you go for upgrade ECU or using custom made Chips.

For more pick up, change all exhaust to a sports exhaust and proper Air filter.I've noticed this engine has a potential to modified. It is just in Malaysia not much expertise on this engine.

I bought my savvy (MT) about 8 months ago. Until now I don't have any problem with the car. Even though some people say the looks of the car is weird or anything, but to me savvy is suitable for those who have low budget. The fuel consumption also very low. Example every day I have to drive about 100km per day and guess what I only need to pay about RM 9.50 for the fuel. As for the radiator fan don't want to stop even after we take out the key is because it just like the turbo timer system. The fan will continuing run if it detect the radiator temperature is high. But it will stop after 1 or 2 minutes. Even Iswara, Waja or Perdana don't have this kind of system. As for the looks, i suggest you just put a bigger air press (rm50),light black tinted window (rm750),change the sport rim to 14 inch and use 185/60R14 (rm900) and put a R3 spoiler at the back (rm250) Only for those don't have R3 body-kit. Trust me, it will change the looks of the car.

I agree with your comment. Some people buy car because of the shape. Some buy because of the brand although it is an ugly design.

For me, Savvy is a good car. I like the shape design. But nowadays all cars are shapeless with less edge design.

I prefer 15 inch tire maintaining the 50 series, but increase to a wider size to 185.

If I opt for 14 inch with 60 series, it will slightly affect the handling. To over come the situation, upgrade to R3 suspension coil.

No problem for my car at all.

Car design and technicalities is an option for customer.

I bought Savvy because of technicalities. I loved its power to weight ratio, handling, and an engine with a potential of modification.

The only things I have noticed for those who purchased AMT Version may experience jerking situation.

That's what car manufacturer come out with Dual Clutch system or other system. However, it is a new technologies only offered to much expensive cars.

Other Semi Auto Car also facing jerking with single dry clutch system. Anyway, Savvy is a good car.

1) The battery regardless how good it is need to be replaced every year.

2) Difficulties to start is due to Speed Sensor. The speed sensor is located underneath the engine / gearbox bay. The sensor need to be cleaned or replace due to an accumulation of dirt. This is the main reason why car cannot start. Get it cleaned every 20000km or otherwise replacing the cable will cost extra.

Proton Savvy maintenance : Do check radiator and sensor regularly and do not hesitate to service it. Other maintenance is cool.

To save costs, always refer and ask opinions and advice from Proton mechanics. I've befriended one, and now I can save on costs like servicing the engine oil and filter, how to handle and service the radiator (which is different from other cars) and also checking for some common problems which I never had until now. Do remember, fellow savvy owners, that our cars' engine, and inside its front booth are totally different from others, so do not hesitate to get advice and training from Protons expert mechanics. As for me (a non-mechanic guy), I'm so glad to be a Proton driver, and especially savvy. Just remember, Renaults parts are expensive but the quality is better than the price. I've clocked almost 105k kilometres within 2 years, and since then I've experienced changing the parts I should change. Take care of the car, and you can save on costs. Good luck!

Savvy is good for high revving. Low revving is kind of sluggish. I noticed all proton models like that.

I am more on high revving. No hesitation to push until limit. If you know how to monitor rev meter you will be able to drive the car perfectly.

Nowadays, most consumer prefers low rpm. For me,if you opt for pick up at low rpm, diesel engine is a good choice as it has more torque.

So far the car for me is good enough to travel within the city and highway.

The person posted on: 9th Jan 2008, 10:27.

Are you be sure the Proton saleman gave you RM$2000.00 discount from the RM$36,999.00 (Savvy Lite)? Mean you are only pay RM$34,999.00 for new savvy lite?

I think the discount RM$2000.00 only applicable for Savvy Hiline and standard only. Pls check carefully.

I've been driving my Savvy AMT for about 2 years now. Lately the Auto Transmission signal keeps blinking on and off... experienced some difficulties in starting the car as well. Sent the car to Proton for repair.. same problems occur again after 1 week. Really disappointed..

Good car, but quite expensive spare parts. Can someone advice me on timing belt. Manual said 60000 km. Some people told me can be more than that. Pls advice.

28th Mar 2008, 20:41

Hi all Savvy owners...

It has been a while that I did not post comments. Here is some advice for good maintenance :-

1) Stick to one service center. My car had already in 2 years clocked 60000km. No problem, and I always ask advice from them knowing Savvys use Renault engines.

2) The only part I needed to change after warranty was the coil. The car's engine wobbles, like it has not enough fuel. It costs RM480.00. Fair enough after 50000 km or 2 years.

3) Awaiting the 60000km service, which requires me to change the timing belt. Hmmmm... let's see how much it costs for a complete set. Anybody know?

Any idea how much would it cost or possible to convert the standard MT Savvy to the AMT?

Thanks.

Still thinking to buy or not to buy.

I've bought one red savvy in the middle of 2006. at the beginning there is no problem at all and I enjoy it very much.

After quite sometimes, problem occurs one by one..

Although proton gives me full support for replacing parts, I feel tired with the complains that have been made to the service centre and I use a lot of time to send my car for repair.

AMT with weak and jerk while gear transition, not smooth like other automatic car from other product, could any one can find out what gearbox can match savvy engine. of course it is from Renault, so maybe kangoo or other model?
