6 moths ago I bought a 1.2 52 plate Renault Clio.

Woke up Christmas morning to find my hazards flashing, inside hazard light flashing (whether it was pushed in or not) and battery dead from the constant flashing. After checking the fuses, CD player connections and disconnecting hazard light switch with no such luck, I took it to my local Renault dealer who charged £60 for an unsuccessful diagnostic and wanted another £120 to check ECU and alarm.

However, I did not trust the dealer, so I took it to a mechanic friend who suggested replacing the relay circuit board or something as the only way to show a fault is to change it. I am still waiting for the results.

I know this is a completely different problem to most of everyone else's, but does anyone have any suggestions or had the same problem?

I have a Renault Clio 1.2L 16v Expression. Today (morning) my car would not start. 2 weeks ago I had the same problem. Called the AA out and they told me to get a replacement Crank Shaft Sensor. I purchased 1 from the Internet for £25. 2 days later same problem. Replaced it with the old 1 and the car was working fine until this morning. I called the AA out once more. I purchased a genuine Crank Shaft Sensor from Renault (last week) knowing this problem will occur again. The AA patrol replaced the old crank shaft sensor with the new genuine Renault part and the car would not start. They fiddled with a few wires in the ECU unit and it worked. Now I am praying tomorrow morning it starts again. My worst nightmare.

Hello.

My girlfriend purchased a 54 reg renault clio 1.2 16v dynamique almost 2 years ago and has recently (last 3-4 months) started juddering. This is the reason for me looking on here. I have noted all the possible reason for it and plan on taking it to someone who might be able to follow these suggestions and rectify the problem.

Also around the time when the car was purchased the car was recalled in order to sort out the bonnet catch. When the car was returned to me the airbag light came on. When I insisted this be sorted nothing could be found as to be the reason for the warning light to be on. It emerged that whilst this was in the renault dealership they had 'inadvertently knocked' one of the wires under the passenger seat loose. What kind of car is made with such loose connections! If lights are flashing I suggest checking the connections as this may help.

I shall try and comment back to state whether the juddering problem is sorted by trying suggestions on here.

Cheers

Lambo.

I bought a 2006 new shape clio brand new, the other week it failed emissions and engine management light on. AA man came out two of the coil packs were knackered, so he replaced all four car has been fine since. If your car is out of warranty the coil packs are quite cheap on ebay to buy.

Clio Expression 1.2 03 plate.

If anyone here can help please message me at kayli__@hotmail.com.

My SERVICE light and AIRBAG lights have come on.. the car isn't due a service for another year/8,000 miles!

I asked 2 garages for advice, one said it was likely a wire or something had probably come loose under the seat which is connected to the airbags, and the other said it was most likely an engine or electrical fault, and they'd have to run it through the computer to find the fault! I'm now very confused!!

Phoned the Renault dealer - basically wouldn't speak to me unless I wanted to book a full service, which as I've said isn't due! Useless!!

If anyone has had this problem or knows what could be causing it, please help!!

Thanks.

K.

PS. Some advice to others... I stalled my Clio one evening and it wouldn't restart, not even the next morning. I wasn't even ticking over. All the electrics were working, but no noise or response from the engine. I called the AA & turns out it was something really simple - in stalling it a bit of dirt had become lodged under the clip that sends the signal to the starter motor or something, so the signal wasn't passing through the wire! Wiped it off and started fine!

I own a '53' plate Renault Clio.

Last week the 'toxic fume' and 'engine maintenance' warning light started to appear. This would affect my revs and my car would cut out.

At one point I was doing 75mph down a dual carriageway and my car cut out which resulted in a near miss accident!!!

I booked my car in with renault and have just been informed that an electrical fault has occured and will cost £800 to fix. This is due to the electrical harness / loom being damaged and needing replacing.

I contacted Renault HO to find out what they would do to help as if this is a manufacturing issue I shouldn't pay a penny!! They have excepted fault, but as it's outside the 3 years warranty they won't pay the full amount.

I contacted Trading Standards for help as Renault were useless and kept putting me on hold! Trading Standards have informed me of the SALES OF GOODS ACT 1979 which states that a car should be sold in working condition and obviously this isn't the case.

I'm currently waiting to hear back from Renault as after reading all the comments on here this seems like a common fault and they should start taking responsibility.

Fair enough I must admit I haven't had any problems until now, but this is a serious and dangerous fault that could of resulted in an accident. If Renault don't accept fault I will be taking this matter further.

Let me know what you think?

I'll keep you posted.

I have a 2001 1.2 16v Clio Sport which we bought new. I never had any problems for the first 4 or 5 years, apart from the wiring loom wearing through from the ECU plug cover, chaffing the loom, until I drove through a large puddle one day, and the revs dropped off and the engine warning light came on.

From this point on I have had similar intermittent problems for about the last year and a half.

I have had the car into Renault numerous times and had several sensors replaced. My wife has finally got fed up with the car and replaced it with a new Mini.

The last time it was in, I was told if it happened again it would need a new fuel computer. Basically I get the feeling that the main dealers don't know what they are doing, so with this in mind I contacted an auto electrician. He told me that quite often it's the throttle bodies that go. He also said that when Renault change the throttle bodies, they usually recommend changing the wiring loom. Armed with this knowledge, I had a good look at the loom and found some more chaffing further along the loom where it folds over the front of the engine. I repaired this and took it for a test, and everything seemed well until the next day when it started doing it again. So it looks like I will try the throttle body next. I'll probably just try cleaning it as I'm selling the car as soon as I can sort it out.

For anyone out there thinking of buying one, be careful.

Other recent faults I've had are leaking rear brake cylinders, front anti roll bar link pin/bush shearing, drivers electric window mechanism failing (wire guides made from plastic broke off) and 2 keys went faulty (very expensive to replace) this causes the immobiliser to stick on, rear coil spring broke as well.

It's a shame as when the car's running well, I really liked it. Most of the faults were easy to repair and not too expensive if you don't use main dealer parts, but the engine management problem is a real pain. Good luck!

I'll try and let you know if cleaning the throttle body helped.
