I have got a Renault Clio Dynamique 1.4 16v 52 plate. It's been an brill car for 2 years, until it started misfiring. Not as bad as some of the comments on this site. Hasn't cut out on me luckily!

I first thought I had a hole in my exhaust, but took it to a local garage and he said it was the ignition coils which was making it misfire. A regular problem with Clios was what he said! So I had the ignition coils 1 and 3 replaced and it has been fine!

Going to write to Renault as I think this is a known problem; going to get my money back. Only cost 96 pounds, but it's something I don't want to pay out for when it's a common fault.

After reading all of the posts I too have copied this link in a complaint to watchdog. My 51 reg 1.2 Clio authentique has the intermittent fault of losing power when driving along, as you press the clutch to change gear it loses power and the engine management light comes on, after pulling over and taking out of gear the revs are fluctuating up and down wildly. However after turning off the ignition and restarting everything is fine, this has happened on numerous occasions on the A1 and on junctions and is very dangerous. The garage cannot find any fault after connecting it up to the computer and examining the car, I have just paid £320 for a service and MOT only for it to do this 3 days later. (i also had the airbag light problem which is due to the wires being under the passenger seat and getting damaged easily and the car battery dying for no reason - luckily repaired whilst still under warranty) Please contact watchdog!

I bought a Clio 2 weeks ago; a 1.2 dynamique billabong, 53 plate.

Its been great until today. I was driving along and was on the slip road which leads onto a busy dual carriage way, and I got to 40 mph and the car just lost power. I tried changing gear, but as soon as it got back up to 40mph it lost power again. I had to pull over, and luckily my boyfriend (who is a mechanic) managed to get out of work to come to my rescue.

He drove my car to my house and said the car was losing power, but he managed to drive through it and he picked up speed. He left my house to go back to work and took my car so he could look at it. He said it didn't have a problem at all for the 7 mile journey back to his work.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? My boyfriend said he is going to get it put on some machine to see if it brings the fault up. He had a quick look over it, but could not see anything obvious.

Any Ideas? Please help.

Thanks.

There are two main faults. One is that the car idles poorly and becomes jerky. The other is that the car looses power.

The remedy for my car, clio 1.2 16v which is the same basic design as the 1.4 etc. Renewing the lambda sensors corrected the idle/judder. The power loss though was still present. This was cured through changing the (TPS) Throttle position sensor.

Car is now 100 percent.

PLEASE HELP ME!!!

I bought my Renault Clio Dynamique nearly 2 years ago.

Up until recently it was a great car to drive however...

The engine management light has recently been coming on... At the same time, the car either cuts of completely or starts to rev itself!!

This happens when the revs drop... I. E when slowing down or when I put my foot on the clutch.

I booked it into a garage last week & they put it on the diagnostics machine. At first it came up with 5 faults all of which cleared except one... The MAP sensor...

They cleaned the sensor & said it should be fine however... two minutes down the road & the light came back on...

Plugged it back in the diagnostics machine... MAP Sensor...

They replaced that which in itself was over £110.00!!! However, small price to pay for the car being fixed.. Or so I thought!!

Again... 2 minutes down the road & the same thing happened again... Back on the machine again... MAP sensor connection!!!

The garage had a look @ the main engine wiring loom which seemed to be a bit frayed... The insultation had come off a few of the wires so they re-insulated & said there were no codes present... therefore... no fault...

What a joke... Drove it 2 minutes along the road & still the same problem... They advised it might need re-programmed, but were unsure & told me to book it into Renault as they were the only ones that had the equipment to find out what was actually wrong with the car...

This is costing a further £70 for a Diagnostics check!! I feel ripped off well & truly... Help me please!!

There may be some light at the end of the Clio stalling tunnel, I have just purchased a second hand Clio and as is the norm it decided to randomly cut out and then not start again until the computer reset, after thorougly verbally abusing my Renault mechanic we finally found the faults.

Firstly the throttle body needed to be cleaned and a new throttle body seal fitted. (this leaking seal tends to confuse the engine management system causing spluttering and stalling.

Second the TDC or flywheel sensor was loose so we soldered the wires onto the sensor.

The car starts first time and runs smoothly now, try these fixes you might like them and the price tag..

Hi This is exactly the same as what happened to me.. take it back to the garage and ask them to clean out the throttle body... It gets gunked up.. they may try to say it needs replacing however ask them to clean it out first...

It cured my problems and 6mnths on still no problems..

Good Luck Jason.

Hi Everyone!!!

My Clio is now fixed... Please read my "Please Help Me" comment above!!

Like many of you my Clio's engine management light was coming on at junctions... sometimes it was reving itself & sometimes it was cutting out...

I had the MAP sensor replaced & the wiring loom fixed... However... Waste of money!!!

After reading this site I asked the garage to check the fuel throttle...

There was actually a pool of oil in the manifold & the fuel throttle was soaked in oil!!!

The diagnostics computers will never pick up the correct fault as the oil on the fuel throttle confuses the machine.

Before Renault charge you £70 for a diagnostics test ask a garage to strip down the engine first... It's a bit old style, but it works!! I only paid 2 hours (£50) for this & my car has run great ever since.

This is a design fault... I have contacted Renault & watchdog...

What should we need to repair these design faults??!!??
