I have a 1998 Renault Clio with only 60,000 miles. When I use the indicators, all the dash lights were flashing. Problem was a faulty wiring loom in the right back panel. Changed wiring, everything OK.

Now the air bag light comes on after 100 mile trip. The car stops, after a few minutes it starts again, and the problem goes away for a few weeks at a time.

I'm 18 and have an 02 Clio Extreme.

I am experiencing loss of power and bouncing revs. Sometimes the coil light comes on and the throttle just won't respond.

I have also had many of the other problems people have mentioned and paid to have them "fixed".

Can anyone help? I don't have the money for Renault to rip me off!

I have a 00 plate Clio Alize automatic and yes I'm having the exact same problems as every other Clio driver here. I actually cannot believe the sheer amount of people with this problem, yet Renault won't do anything about it!

Mine has been at two garages for diagnostics only to find nothing. I've had a few bits replaced but no-one has a clue what is wrong. The thing conked out four times in under ten minutes yesterday and I have no idea what to do next!

I think the only option is to find someone who has worked in a Renault garage to see if they have any info or part-exchange the thing!

I have a Clio 52 plate, and I am also having problems with the electric coil light coming on. I had this same problem 1 and a half years ago and it went in and out of the garage. I paid for sensors to be replaced, I had the wiring checked out I had the throttle pedal reset. I then had no problem for just over 1 and a half years, and now it's started again. I have now taken it to a garage with an ex Renault mechanic and he says to get a new computer. I can't afford that, so I've no choice but to scrap it. Only problem is I do community nursing, so no car, no job.

I own a Renault Clio Dynamique 1.6v 2002 model, and has been nothing but trouble for the three years I have had it, always being something wrong with it from day 1 (OK, I'll accept I have driven it into a shopping trolley, a Peugeot and a van, but these were just slow collisions and barely did any damage (despite the van driver's claims)).

Anyhow, first there has been the long standing issue with the coils and spark plugs. A warning to you all; it seems these babies can just go at any time on the Clio. I am now on my 3rd set of coils (1 full replaced, 1 part replaced) and am eagerly awaiting the next day one of these decide to go kaboom (not).

Secondly the air bags - a few months ago the service light and air bag warning light lit up like a Christmas tree, and my doors unlocked while I was driving on the motorway. This I was told is (surprise surprise) only a task Renault can fix, as only they have the tools required to reset the airbags.

And now for the second time, my coil and exhaust warning lights are shining bright, my revs are capped at about 2800, and I'm about at my wits end.. as soon as I can afford to get rid of the blasted car, it's going. Of course if I have to keep shelling out for these blasted repairs, it looks like I'll be stuck with her forever.

Fitting that I have now decided her original name M.J. now stands for "Mostly Junk".

OK I have had the same problems as most people here.

My can will make a chugging noise and then if I don't rev it, then it stalls.

However, today while driving down a straight road, my passenger air bag exploded randomly. I didn't hit a curb or a pot hole. It was quite scary and 3 hours later my ears are still ringing from the noise. I've taken it to a Renault dealer and they're going to investigate. This is obviously a massive problem and I really don't know why Renault have not recalled the car.

My passenger air bag was always turned off, as I always have my child in the front with me. Driving on the motorway, the passenger airbag light and service light both came on, and I never went over any bumps or pot holes either. Since then it won't let me turn the airbag off without the service light coming on. I hope mine doesn't explode like yours when my child is in front.

This car should be recalled for a number of faults, not just this one, but Renault won't do anything unless we all complain. They told me the only reason these cars were recalled for the bonnet catch is because it had been reported in the press. Perhaps someone should go to the press about all the same problems we are all having.

Hello I'm having problems with the gearbox. For example when stationary, it is hard to select 1st, and I would need to apply the handbrake and step on the clutch again, while also when selecting from 3rd to 2nd gear, it seems to be stiff and judders.

It's a 07 Campus.

My daughter has a problem with her X reg. Clio 1.4 petrol. Changing the throttle potentiometer (at the side of the airbox). Hopefully should cure the misfire, loss of power on acceleration and juddering on at idle speed, GOD WILLING!!!

P.S It takes approx. 15 minutes to change if you have the narrowest of 'torx' bits to access the lower fixing.

Good luck.

Could anyone advise me on how to take off the rocker cover on an S reg 1998 Clio? I want to change the gasket, as it seems to be leaking, but although I've removed fixings and bolts that hold it in place, it still seems fixed at the cam belt end. I'm getting frustrated, cos I can't find anything holding it!

Craig.

Hello.

A new member of the Clio Club here!

I recently passed my driving test, and have been looking for a car. My parents spotted a 2002 Clio 1.2 Extreme for sale near us. Got it MOT'd, passed with flying colours, no problem reported by previous (fibbing) owner, jobs a good'un. Had it serviced on the Thursday, cam belt replaced and a few other bits and bobs, but that was it. Went to pick it up at the weekend, drove it about on Saturday, no problems.

Drove it back to my house (live 80 odd miles from my parents), well, attempted to, drove for an hour no problems, made a small service station stop, then about 5 minutes after restarting, I suddenly lost power on the motorway, car wouldn't go over 35mph, then got slower and slower, and then started juddering really badly. Fortunately made it to a roundabout and bailed off, but was very frightening for an inexperienced driver.

Greenflag dude couldn't fix it and says he thinks it's the crankshaft sensor. Reading this, I'm really worried about getting it fixed, as I'm wondering if they'll get to the bottom of the problem? Very worrying, and I'm nervous about driving it now in case it happens again.

Looked again through all the bumf that we were given (*AFTER* we'd bought it), and about a year ago it was taken to the garage for cutting out, cheers for the info, seller, very kind. If the crankshaft got replaced 12 months ago, is it likely to be the same problem again?

Will be phoning Renault and Watchdog and Trading Standards (and possibly a counselor!) when I get word from the garage...
