2000 Renault Megane Cabriolet Sport Alize 1.6 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Aesthetically pleasing, but ultimately disappointing

Faults:

Within 2 months the hydraulics went on the hood meaning it caused an almighty screech when you put the hood down.

The passenger seat rattled and the driver's side window squeaked very noisily when it was used.

General Comments:

The Renault dealer service is possibly the worst I have ever come across, it is quite frankly appalling.

When they took my car in to look at the hood they said it would take a day or two. They never once called me when they promised and I was constantly chasing them for updates. It took them 3 weeks to sort out the problem without so much as an apology for taking that long. Like I said, they never phoned me once in that time, I even had to phone them to check that the car was ready to pick up.

Apart from that the car looks stunning, it is far better looking than the competition with the hood up and down. It has a good engine which is quick and frugal and although the coachwork is excellent (it is done by Karmann I think though), the interior build quality is plasticy and not particularly good.

2000 Renault Megane RXE 1.6 16v from Turkey

Summary:

This car redefines the concept of Renault

Faults:

It started to run slightly hotter (not overheating though) than usual, then the dealer re-programmed the ECU to cure a malfunction on the fan operation range. This happened at 5000 kms service, now the car runs perfectly even on the hottest day.

General Comments:

- Service prices are average.

- A/C is superb.

- Ride is excellent.

- Torquey engine, being a 1.6 is very powerful.

- Fuel consumption is around 37 mpg. Excellent.

- Better construction quality than the others.

2000 Renault Megane RXT 1.6 16v petrol from Israel

Summary:

Great problematic car

Faults:

Some things in the auto-box electronic brain had to be changed, after just 7000 km.

General Comments:

Why can't the French build a proper automatic gear box that doesn't make trouble??????

But I still love this car!

It's comfortable, safe, power-full "revi" engine, the spec is really good for the low price.

The steering is a bit too light.

2000 Renault Megane Coupe Sport Alize 1.6 16V from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Plenty of super sexy bang for your buck

Faults:

Strange noise coming from passenger side door.

General Comments:

A good deal and good service from Renault. The car is very responsive and has great handling. Overall looks and refinement are excellent. The interior looks a bit dated and could do with a facelift. The exterior is drop dead. 15" five spoke alloys top it off nicely.

Summary:

A terrific looking car with cut price build quality

Faults:

In the three months that I have had the car and the following faults have occurred:

The immobiliser failed.

The sunroof leaked.

The sunroof is still rattling.

General Comments:

I really want to like this car but the faults don't help.

The genuine help of the dealer keeps me going.
