2000 Renault Megane Liberte 16V 1.4 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

The car is cheap to run

Faults:

Renault dealership is expensive.

Every time I drive it, vibrations can be heard, especially coming from the front doors.

The seats tend to wear out pretty quick.

I have to pull the hand brake at maximum for it to hold, despite that I had it checked recently.

Cheap plastic interior.

Big steering wheel (as compared to other similar sized cars).

When you start the car in the morning (or after a long while), the revs are higher and take a long time to come down.

On top of that, the immobiliser is absolutely erratic. On some days it will work, on others it will not; for no apparent reason.

General Comments:

Flimsy back bumpers.

Very cheap to run.

Up to now, it has proved very reliable after I have serviced it.

Hold very well on the road; even at high speeds (100 mph).

2000 Renault Megane Classic RXE 1.9 tDI from Malta

Summary:

Good car at a good price

Faults:

Odometer not working after 13000 miles. Electronic fault due to a corrosion in wiring clip.

Broken left front strut at 38000 miles.

Rear right wheel bearing replaced at 46000 miles.

General Comments:

This car is fantastic, and has a very good acceleration and consumption.

The a/c does not use fuel, and does not affect the engine power (you do not nearly notice loss of power when the A/C is on).

Very good ride and handling. Sometimes you feel a little bit of understeer when driving hard, but this is not a sports car!

Interiors are great. A minus point is that the back passengers do not have so much legroom, to compensate for an over sized boot.

2000 Renault Megane RXT 1.6 from Israel

Summary:

Fine, but get rid of it by its 5th year

Faults:

At 6000 kilometers and below, had a lot of problems with electricity - had to replace the rear wiper, the front panel, and a lot of the fuses.

At 4,000km or so, had to replace the whole gear box as it wouldn't go in reverse.

The tires need replacing almost every 2 years.

The battery has had to be replaced twice already.

The exterior paint chips really easy and rusts.

The plastic trim on the win shield started peeling off at 3+ years.

The alarm is incredibly annoying and resets after a small time and you have to reset it a few times.

As of 7.5 years (120,000 kilometers) have had to change the whole window mechanism for 3 out of the 4 windows - the motor went and the window slid down.

Also recently had to replace the gas cable, the clutch, the radiator, and the bearings for the rear wheels.

General Comments:

Overall a very smooth, responsive powerful car for a 1.6 benzene.

I love the safety of the car and its solidity, but its too expensive to run.

The interior has no space to put drinks or glasses, etc.

This is a very simple review, but it gets straight to the point and is easily understood. Well done writer.

2000 Renault Megane RTA 1.6e from Romania

Summary:

A good solid, reliable car, but not so well made and certainly not sporty at all

Faults:

A few times it didn't start from the first attempt.

General Comments:

The car is very reliable.

The ride is very comfortable, but it doesn't handle at all well on curves.

The acceleration is above average and not what I would expect from a 1.6 engine (I have the 8v, 90hp version)

Fuel consumption is excellent.

Build quality is poor, the fittings are quite bad, and it doesn't seem they would last well in time.

Spacious car, good accommodation for 5 adults, huge boot, I could never fill it.

Very low running costs, I only put gas and oil in it, the car is very reliable.
