2000 Renault Scenic GLX 1.6 from Trinidad and Tobago

Summary:

The car is as good as the service it gets

Faults:

Timing went at 120,000km.

General Comments:

I had an engine job done, and 20000km later my engine went again.

The dealer never sealed the engine properly. My first job cost me $15,000.00.

This time I am not going by them.

2000 Renault Scenic RTE 1.4 petrol from Malta

Summary:

A fantastic comfortable car with an attitude because of the coils

Faults:

Engine misfires and occasional loss of power after two years, 20,000km. Problem solved after service/plugs changed.

Engine misfires and occasional loss of power again every now and then. Every time I decide to visit agent car works in perfect order.

30,000 rear shock absorber goes hard and stuck. Changed while car underparts are still clean with low careful usage. (using my older Toyota for the day to day road running)

Misfiring stops for a year after I fitted the coils with O rings which exactly fit into upper groves of the coil, making the part water proof... Starts again bue works normal after cleaning down under near the sparking plug. Suspect design problem.

General Comments:

Very comfy ride and solid looks. I own the 2000 model metallic green. Beautiful car, real interior quality and many extras such as adjustable steering and seat height, handy radio controls at the steering. Problems after approx two years and low mileage...

There is a design problem in the engine which retains water/condensation near the coils killing the strength of the spark. I have Nippon Denso coils (my other car is a Toyota and I don't think these parts fail), which I do not suspect as the core problem of occasional sometimes continuous misfiring. I removed the coils myself (simple screw driver set tool) and found out that regularly the plugs where being exposed to moisture mysteriously accumulating in the bore where the coil fits. The design of the bore itself creates condensation or acts as a receptacle to water droplets.

Renault should see into this problem as it makes your car feel like an old tech car.

2000 Renault Scenic RXE 2.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

An excellent investment

Faults:

The rear 12v socket is a bit dodgy, but I never use it now, so don't care.

Trip computer forgets its values after engine has been turned off.

General Comments:

Has exceeded my expectations.

This car has performed well for 6 years and has not given me any problems apart from those mentioned, which I can live with.

Wind noise is fairly noticeable at speed on the motorway.

I find the car comfortable, easy to drive and apart from some paint bubbles on the front bumper, looks as good inside and out as when new.

2000 Renault Scenic 1.4 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Very happy with it after just under 60000 miles

Faults:

Within approx 3 months from new car became sluggish and dealer replaced ignition coil - not had that problem since.

At approx 40000 miles, little bolts holding one of the fan belt pulleys came loose and fan belt got chewed and pulley came off. Dealer repaired for free.

Recently (59000 miles) water pump started leaking water. Pump replaced (also took opportunity to change timing belt) cost Euro 650 (approx £450).

Rear door (tailgate) doesn't close if you don't have the little square catch thingy pointing at the right angle to hit the receiver on the door. When this first happened it took us a little while (& frustration) to figure out, but it's no bother once you know.

General Comments:

Overall very happy with this car.

The 1.4 engine gives good economy (32-34 mpg in town, 48-50mpg on a run @ 60mph with 3 kids & 2 adults)

Really useful being able to control radio and CD from right hand on steering wheel.

Problems we've had were not too serious and within what I'd expect in any car.

2000 Renault Scenic Monaco 2.0i 16v 163 BHP from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Hot MPV

Faults:

Noting at all.

General Comments:

I am the same person that wrote the review on the 125 BHP 1.6i 16v Scenic.

I also have a 2.0L 16v Monaco version too with 157 BHP. Now this car is a little gem as it pretty quick now the same had been done as the 1.6i version it has been super-chipped and a K&N induction kit and also had perfromance spark plugs fitted. boosting BHP to 163. The 0-60 time was already a credible 9.2 seconds, but now it has slipped down to 8.5 seconds. and max speed from 126 to 133 mph. This car makes a laughing stock of of any of the 1.6i/1.8i hatches and is as quick as the Peugeot 206 GTi 136. Looking for more parts for this car if possible.
