2000 Renault Scenic RXE 2.0 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Looking for a nice car? Pick this one!

Faults:

Read disc pads wear faster than the front ones, a new set every 10k miles despite me driving easy on the brakes.

Funny squeak from the alternator belt when cold, but fixed at the dealer at no cost. I'm surprised that they gave me an excelllent service and apologized for the dirt I found on the floor, I know they didn't drive the car because it had the same mileage.

Dark blue paint is hard to keep clean, I wish I bought the grey one. :-(

General Comments:

Excellent car all year round.

Average fuel consumption when driven normally, if you go easy on the pedal you can get 30 or 35 mpg.

Seats are excellent, I do not know why people complain about soft seats, mine are very firm.

Lighting is awesome, better than most cars.

It heats up fast so the heater goes warm after the first mile of driving and still it doesn't overheat in summer time, a problem I had with my previous Jeep.

Went through the MOT with flying colours.

Engine is silent and capable.

Gearbox changes are average, just remember to change the gearbox oil frequently to help the gearbox last longer, a known problem that has an easy solution: A bigger oil cooler for the gearbox.

2000 Renault Scenic dci RXE 1.9 dCI from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Good idea spoilt by appalling customer service from the dealer and Renault UK

Faults:

Gearbox noisy from new - replaced.

Wiper motor noisy.

Sunroof didn't close properly.

Engine needed taking out for a seal replacement at the first service.

Clutch started slipping.

Clutch cable binding.

Clutch pedal broke.

Diesel injection pump leaked - needed a total replacement.

New gearbox mountings fitted.

Gear change noisy.

Dash rattled horrendously.

Soft seats induced back problems.

General Comments:

Renault has ZERO commitment to customer satisfaction, despite all the claims.

"That's what the warranty is for" is all Renault HO were prepared to offer.

5 weeks at the dealer (at the last attempt) and still not sorted - dealer did not attempt to contact me to update on (no) progress, neither did Renault UK.

Renault take NO responsibility for the poor dealer service and work quality saying it is a dealer matter.

Sold car out of frustration at a loss of £6,000 in 1 year, the dealer would not buy the car either!

I have to agree with your comment on Renault dealers and their attitude.

They appear clueless, allied with the inability to return ANY of your telephone calls.

I have an on going issue with a faulty rear washer, I had dropped by my local dealer last week 30/12/02 to find why it's taking so long, it now stands at 8 weeks.

(it's quicker than phoning - as described they don't return calls!) - I was assured that I would contacted... and here I am writing this one week later!

I'm pulling my hair out... i completely sympathize with your plight.

2000 Renault Scenic RXE 1.6L 16v from Malaysia

Summary:

A nice car to own, unique in its class!

Faults:

Nice face lift. So far so good in general.

One of the rear seats is very difficult to remove. The dealer workshop informs me that this is due to the new metal design lever is binding due to thermal metal expansion, and it required some pressure to lift up the mechanism. I was also informed Renault realised this problem happened in hot climates like Malaysia and will change the design. This is not convenient for ladies.

The rear seat head rest is not comfortable, the design angle does not seem right. I have to take them off.

The front seat tilt adjustment knob is not user friendly. I have to turn quite a lot to get the seat adjusted, perhaps a lever type design would work better.

General Comments:

I like the design.

The engine is not very sporty, but does the right job for family use. Engine noise is a bit loud.

The roomy design makes long distance riding joyful.
