At just 176 miles - both front rotors had to be recut - and both rear drums had to be resurfaced.
This was discovered when the first highway braking occurred - slowing from 55-40 - and the car bounced all over the place, right rear locked up, and car swerved into right hand lane.
Now, at 270 miles, the gas gauge has stopped working.
I didn't experience any problems even similar to that until I reached 100,000 miles on my GMC Savanna - and yet on the Saturn Ion, I reached them in the first 300 miles.
Sad.
Saturn Ion cars are unreliable, and unsafe, right after purchased.
Brake issues could have caused major highway accident.
New Brunswick, Canada
14,800 kms on Saturn Ion Quad coupe.
1 year old
driven in nice weather, parked when raining inside my garage.
Gas gauges flat lined - apparent reason - loose connection behind dash.
Something under hood stopping car from shifting properly - apparent reason - wiring laid over the rad hose at factory.
And the latest is a heavy duty thumping in the front end on extended down hill braking. thumping disappears after the braking stops and we drive about a city block and a 1/2.
Dealer tells us that it's a hard spot in the rotor, and that both rotors will need to be replaced at 90 dollars a piece and labour. Cause - driving through water after hard braking. Please read the driving times of the car in para 1.
Our 2003 never had these issues.
I never had an issue with the Saturns we have owned, ever.
I sincerely HOPE commenter 06:42 DID NOT pay to have the rotors replaced on a Saturn that was still very much under warranty. If a dealer forced you to pay for what should have been warranty repairs, I hope you took it to your local Consumer Affairs office.
I bought a new Dodge in 1988 and it had warped rotors the day we drove it home. The dealer flatly refused to fix it, as did Chrysler corporation (I filed a grievance with Chrysler headquarters). As a result it was 14 years before anyone in my family even LOOKED at another Chrysler product. Since we are a multi-car family (never less than three at a time) Chrysler lost quite a bit from our 14-year boycott. I can't understand why any car company would risk alienating people (and their families and friends) by refusing to honor their warranties.
