1998 Saturn SL 1.9 from North America

Summary:

Great value for the money, safe and dependable

Faults:

In almost three years of owning my first Saturn, I only encountered two problems. The first minor problem was a faulty dome light inside the cabin which was replaced under warranty.

The second, around 18,000 miles I had the ignition control module replaced under warranty. Other than that, it was near perfect.

General Comments:

After my own experience with my 1998 Saturn and after seeing further proof, 1998 was Saturns best year for quality. I had essentially no problems with the car and felt secure in its reliability.

The seats were a bit low to the ground, and the engine did have some vibrations at idle, was very inexpensive to maintain however. My retailer has been excellent and due to excellent lease/finance rates I leased my second Saturn last week (2001 SL1).

1998 Saturn SL SL1 from North America

Summary:

Good customer service at corporate level, poor service with the dealership

Faults:

In the shop today to replace the fuel injectors for the 5th time. The first three occurred in the first 9 months. The last two have happened in the last 3 months. Had to replace the steering rack once, oxygen sensors a few times, coil packs, window fell off track. Biggest concern is the inconvenience of the fuel injectors and the amount of times they've had to replace them.

General Comments:

Called the corporate office for help after the third situation and they offered to extend my warranty to 100K miles (good faith offer). This would void any chances for lemon law. I accepted and at 60K miles I'm still having problems. I'd recommend Saturn only because of the customer service I received from the corporate office, but won't buy one again because of the dealership itself.

1998 Saturn SL SL2 from North America

Faults:

It is new, but perfect. Consistent with my experience with the 1995 Saturn I owned.

General Comments:

An excellent, comfortable, reliable car! A bit under-powered in acceleration, even with the bigger motor but I probably push it too hard anyway. It drives well around town and at highway speeds. Dealer service is beyond expectations. Highly recommended. This is my second Saturn!!!
