1991 Toyota Pickup 22re from North America

Summary:

Toughest truck you will ever buy. Get the 4 cylinder!

Faults:

Did full front brake job when I got the truck at 190,000km.

Changed an alternator, around 210,000km (after I drove the truck through water almost up to the windshield).

Changed a radiator, around 215,000km (after a log punctured the original).

Changing the head gasket as I write this, 361,000km.

General Comments:

I BEAT... no sorry, I ABUSE this truck. It has over 360,000km, original motor, original drive train, even factory original clutch (had the dealer tell me this).

This truck will not die!

Most reliable vehicle I know of!

I wouldn't hesitate buying another, even with really high mileage on it.

Good job Toyota!

YES!!! The Toyotas are the best and most reliable truck. My truck has 250,000 miles and is still running strong. Great truck.

1991 Toyota Pickup 2x4 short bed 22RE 4 cylinder from Japan

Summary:

Reliable..

Faults:

A/C hose replaced several times before 500 miles... eventually Toyota just replaced the whole AC system unable to solve the problem... lots of chlorofluorocarbons in the air thanks to that.

Clutch replaced at 160k

Plastic guides for timing chain and the chain itself - 200k.

Front brake pads every 20-50k most likely due to driving style. Rear shoes at 120k and still goin' strong when I sold the vehicle. Small rip in seam of cheap-o vinyl seats.

It's pretty hard to just come up with things on such a reliable vehicle. It literally looked and performed like a much newer vehicle.

General Comments:

My father practically forced me to buy a Toyota P/U for my first vehicle. Now I know why. It endured my aggressive driving style and tens of thousands of miles of road trips. Many of which were 24+ hours of continuous driving. I didn't treat my truck well at all, but it was more than happy to take the abuse. I paid $7600 for it new and sold it for $2500 10 years later WITH the timing chain issue... what more could you expect???!!!

1991 Toyota Pickup 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

A very reliable tuck

Faults:

I had to put in a new radiator because it was leaking, but that's expected at 176,000 miles. The keys wore out and the overhead light in the cabin isn't bright enough.

General Comments:

I love this truck, it is very reliable and I've added a few things to make it look very nice. Tinted windows, roll cage and a lift kit make it look very nice. It isn't a super fast truck, but its nice for a 4 cylinder. My only complaints are that the key wore out and that the overhead light isn't exactly bright. Amazingly the clutch is almost good as new after all these miles and the engine runs well after all these miles. I expect to still be able to put at least another 50,000 miles on it without any major repairs.

I have the same truck. And I have had no major problems with it. Like you said, the only problem I have with it is the light in the inside not being bright enough. I have a 4 inch suspension lift and a 4 inch body on my truck now. But I only have 33 inch tires on it, so I am looking to put on 36 super swampers.

1991 Toyota Pickup 1 ton V6 3 liter from North America

Faults:

The key wore out... that's it, nothing else. I purchased this truck new in 1991 and have put it through a crash course, literally. I've run this truck into things and been run into by other things. I've run this truck continously on rough mountain roads and basically abused it in far too many ways. Yet this truck has never needed a thing. At 156000 miles it still runs like a champ (though it doesn't look too pretty).

General Comments:

An amazing value. I will definitely buy Toyota again.
