"Would never buy anything else"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The only problems I have had with my vehicle thus far, has been the body. I live in a very harsh climate and, the previous owner drove it in the winter. I had to put new fenders + quarters on the vehicle, but otherwise it has been great. All I hear is all this jargan on the net about head gaskets being a problem on these cars. I have not had any problems as far as the engine goes on this vehicle.

General comments?

I would just like to reply to the gentlemen saying that the Supra is a headache and that a Toyota MR2 is the better buy. As for myself I would not be caught dead in those death traps. I am a fan of cars that don't have a 1000 pound body in order to get 7 seconds 0-60. I like the safer Supra like cars, that had safety in mind, not all out speed for a bunch of teenage show offs.

I own a 1989 Supra NA, and the only major breakdown was a powersteering hose that ruptured in my driveway.

There are other sports cars that are lighter and faster, MR2 included, but I can't think of any other car that runs smooth like silk, handles great, has great brakes, is pretty to look at, and shows strength and poise as it moves with purpose on the road.

I can't understand the flak over the headgaskets on these cars. My Supra has over 230,000km on it, (I bought it when it had 50k) and I've never experienced the grief over headgaskets. I am careful about the cooling system, and have it flushed every year. I'm really sorry that Toyota has nothing on their showroom floor today that compares with the Supra - the greatest car they've ever made - except maybe for the LS400 (Lexus).

I agree with you sir.. I have a 1984 Toyota Supra and it has over 250,000. It's a great car!

It has the 2.8 liter DOHC engine, 0-60 in under 8 seconds. I can cruise at 95 and 100 all day long.. I disagree about the head gaskets...

I own an 86 1/2 and as well with 160000km have not had a head gasket problem. Also i'd like to note that with a K&N fipk kit, a good exhaust header and an MSD ignition unit you can easily blow past a soupcan MR2 by third gear. While looking a hell of a lot cooler in the process.

The Toyota Supra was dubbed by the Japanese as "The King of The Highway" or "The Drift King" in the 80's.

I bought my supra non turbo with 35000 miles and gave it away last week with 225000 miles on it never had gasket problems with no leaks, but on the other hand my wifes supra with 100000 been hit by turbo problems, leaks, oil in the air filter and now the engine stalls when you hit the gas I spent 10000 on fixing this car and now it sit in my drive way the mech went from fuel sensor to turbo,to head cover gasket,to head gasket, and then told me it will never run again, but from my drive way I made it all happen working on this car little by little by my self athe last problem is fuel being pumped into the engine when ignition is off, but a new raly is on the way. a good supra mecanic will allways check your gasket an save you money. this car is soo heavy I was afraid of pushing it, but one day from nyc I hard it going at 145 it seems like hood is about to take off, but kept going.my last trip was from nyc to georgia rhe chicago and back to new york non stop in when it comes to comfort the supra is king.

Well to all of you people who's head gaskets haven't taken a dump yet, they will... The only reason they haven't yet is because you don't drive your Supra the way it was MEANT to be driven, fast and hard. Which isn't bad, but why own a sports car?

I personally own a 1987 turbo supra and although I love the car to death (being my third one) I have got to say they do have a problem with the head gasket. In my personal opinion though, I think a lot of what has to do with them blowing is all together who had the car before you did. I love em and wouldn't trade it for the world anyhow. On a second note, I am trying to figure out what the correct boost pressure should be around 3000rpm on the in car gauge. Any help?

I own a 89 toyota supra. The fuel level gauge has never worked. I replaced the dash cluster as well as the sending unit located in the trunk with parts from a salvage yard. I still have the same problem. Can anyone offer any help?
