17:51, Nice try, wrong again. I guess making no improvements on an engine for 20 years is a good thing? Yeah, sure. 318's are good for burning a lot of gas and oil to get you moving, until they blow up. You couldn't baby a 318 to make it last HALF as long as a Honda 4 cylinder that gets redlined every day. Dodge doesn't even use that antique piece of crap motor anymore. I think they replaced it with something even worse, if that's possible.

I owned a 318 once; it burned about a quart of oil a month after 30,000 miles, and turned over the WORST gas mileage I've ever had. Dodge told me 318's are supposed to burn oil! WHAT?! You can drive 60,000 miles on a Honda engine without ever LOOKING at the oil, and you won't burn a drop. Give it up; Dodge isn't even competitive anymore, they're pretty pathetic.

I would like to see the imports offer an unconditional 100,000 mile warranty as standard based on how superior the vehicles are. I have a 100,000 mile mechanical warranty on my 2007 GM, I would like to see the imports take it to a higher level or standard. 36,000 miles immediately does not instill a lot of confidence on my import buying decisions to go back to imports...

28th Mar 2007, 06:21

3/36000 warranty was good enough for GM and Ford for the last 20 years or so. I give GM credit for at least instilling confidence in buying one of their vehicles. Only if Ford would do the same. Pinch me I must be dreaming. Ford never fesses up with anything.

Companies offer extended warranties and free maintenance because they are DESPERATE for customers. Audi, Hyundai, Kia, Mitsubishi and now GM all were offering vehicles no one wanted so they needed a gimmick.

And get back to us when your GM vehicle dies at 90K or sooner. We'll see how the dealership falls all over itself to honor your warranty, assuming your dealership is even in business.

28th Mar 2007, 12:07

I'll take a standard 100,000 mile warranty then a 36,000 mile warranty. There is absolutely no possibility to get my import fixed at 40,000 miles except 100% out of my pocket. I tack on miles very quickly. I was an extremely good import customer 2 at a time every 2-3 years. Not any more.

"Yeah, sure. 318's are good for burning a lot of gas and oil to get you moving, until they blow up. "

Ha ha ha ha ha ha!! That's hilarious, the very idea that anybody COULD blow up a 318 even if they wanted to! Your arguments have obviously hit rock bottom if you have nothing left but to attempt weak criticisms of one of the best engines EVER MADE. Seriously, find me somebody who has ever had a 318 blow up on them. Go ahead. I'll be waiting. A long, long time.

Notice you failed to provide any examples of Accord's that went twice (or even equalled) the miles on the 318. I thought not. You can't even invent fake evidence of such a fantasy.

Keep talking about your sad little Honda 4-popper that you think is so fabulous. Meanwhile, tomorrow I'll be driving my Dodge 318 to work, just like I have every day for the past 11 years. How many Hondas have you gone through in that time? Have you even been driving that long?

29th Mar 2007, 12:31

I had a 2002 Acura (upscale Honda's TL) 2 transmissions in less that 50,000 miles. $34,000 Honda... I took a beating on the trade in as the Carfax showed my mechanical failures,

29th Mar 2007, 14:24

And after your 318 dies, I'll still be driving the same Toyota, and will not have gone poor buying gas while doing it.

The 318 is an inefficient antique that belongs in a museum. Honda and Toyota engines were more advanced the day the first one rolled off of the assembly line.

The 318, as well as the rest of the Big 3's gasoline engines, became obsolete the day Honda invented vtec. Funny how Honda can produce twice as much horsepower as Dodge in the same displacement. That's the funny part; how Dodge needs an eight cylinder engine that gets 13 miles to the gallon to produce only about 200 or less horsepower at the rear wheels.

Either you have a hotline to the spirit world, or this is just more wishful thinking. What an amazing prediction you make about the future! Tell me about it after it happens.

Meanwhile, I'm still driving my 318 to work every day, just like every day for the last 11 years. Face it, your Toyota hasn't even been around for that long.

Did you finally get it to run, or are you just listening to the radio while it's parked on the front lawn? Let us know how your Toyota is doing when it gets to be 22 years old.

31st Mar 2007, 20:16

I can put a piece of crap in a shoe box, wait 22 years, and then brag about how old it is. Same thing as your 318.

I didn't think you'd have anything to say about the rest of my comment, when it came to the specifics of horsepower, fuel consumption and such.

The 318 is a low-tech, outdated, obsolete motor, period.

Piece of crap in a shoebox? Wow, you just perfectly described the average Corolla!

As for the rest of your "blah blah blah" just refer back to my original comment 15:26, which you never addressed, and are obviously unable to. You can say "Toyota will this" and "Toyota will that" but the FACT is that they have NOT equalled the age and miles of the Dodge 318. So try and show a little respect for superior machines. I notice you keep talking about Toyota in general, but never your Toyota. Could it be in the shop -- again? My Dodge 318 was on the road today as usual. How about you?

"The 318 is a low-tech, outdated, obsolete motor, period."

It's quite funny how you find bs to say about a 318, but have NOTHING to say about your own Toyota. Could it be that you know your own car can't compare? Do you even HAVE a car?

My Dodge 318 has 260,000 miles on it without ever being opened up, and you've been curiously quiet on how many miles your own precious Toyota has -- if you even own one, that is. Too late to make something up, now! If you come back and say your Toyota has 300,000 miles, everybody will know it's untrue.

If the 318 has been running since 1985, it can't have received any updates, and of course it is old technology. Thanks for pointing out the completely obvious. But it is still running --- apparently longer than your own Toyota (if you have one), since you're afraid to confess that yours probably doesn't even have 200,000 miles on it.

Once again, my Dodge 318 will be on the road to work tomorrow morning. Where is your Toyota? No comment, eh?

Wow...better hold off on buying the 2008 600 hp Dodge Viper. I kind of like the new Hemi Challenger also. Since they are not any fun maybe a nice 4 cylinder import automatic... there you go!
