2001 Volkswagen Jetta Wolfsburg review from North America

Ticking noise coming from the front of the car.

Excessive brake wear.

Check engine sign came on within the first 2 months of owning the car.

Mysterious wear and tear on the plastic cover which is located under the fender and sits in front of the tire.

Electrical mishaps - bulbs going out quickly, wires burning while trying to upgrade bulbs.

Car stalled while driving, reason unknown.

Window regulators recall.

Ignition coil recall.

Engine vibrates on occasion (apparently due to the ignition coil).

Battery died after car sat unused for a month.

Engine consumes about a quart of oil every 1,000 miles.

Volkswagen customer service is very poor.

I truly love the looks of my 2001 Wolfsburg Jetta, inside and out. The reliability, however, is very questionable.

The car is very comfortable, and the drive is quiet.

Performance is very nice, I made a wise choice by purchasing the 1.8T over the regular 2.0.

Reliability isn't bad, as I have never been stranded or have been lucky enough to have things break near my home.

The "little" problems are making me consider possibly selling this car. I don't want to keep adding oil to the engine of a new car! The ticking sound is very annoying. I don't want to experience the breakdown of the window regulators which the Jetta is so notorious for. The brakes wear out excessively, because there is a defect which is unfixable.

I think that it's time for me to switch car brands.
