I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with approximately 16,000 miles on it and I am just about ready to trade it in. Recently my front suspension wasn't sounding so good and the vehicle wasn't riding that well. Apparently I need to replace the sway bar bushings, which luckily is covered under my warranty, but I am a little shocked that I have to do this at 16,000 miles. My malfunction indicator light popped on at about 80 mph about a week ago, I mentioned it to the dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong with the vehicle. This weekend I noticed that it was leaking anti-freeze and today my vehicle broke down and the hole time the malfunction indicator light was flashing at me. I broke down on the highway and could barely move out of the middle of the road due to my car jolting so much. I am just so glad that I got the extended warranty- (where I can call for road side assistant) and then listen to music for 30 minutes and never have a person pick up on the other end. This is the second jeep I bought within the last year due to difficulties I had with my last jeep that was involved in an accident. I definitely won't be buying a Jeep again.

My Grand Cherokee has had nothing, but problems. The front rotors warped with less than 5,000 miles. Independent repair shop said Chrysler installs very thin rotors on their cars.

Then the transmission pan leaked from day one. Took it to be repaired under warranty and it appears they didn't do anything, but rob Chrysler.

Back axle seal started leaking at 15,000 miles.

Instead of spending money on new looks for 2005, Chrysler ought to spend money on the Quality Department.

To anyone interested in buying a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4...be weary. I have at this time 35,600 miles. To date, I have replaced the rotors 3x, had rotors cut once, been through 3 sets of pads and have even had the calipers replaced and upgraded. Now I have to say that most of the repairs were done within the 12K warranty period for the brakes, but I have come to the point of complete frustration. Never before have I had a car/SUV that ate through rotors and brakes like this car does. Also, I now am experiencing a stall in acceleration. Had the service department check it out, they reset the computer and guess what, stalled acceleration again. Be weary my friends.

I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo currently at my mechanic. It just doesn't seem to want to go when you hit the gas. RPM'S are at 2000 before it really gets going, yet when you start in 2nd or 1st, it's fine. Please let me know if any of you have had this problem. I currently have about 70000 miles on it. I replaced the transmission sensor at about 40,000,miles.

I also have a 2001 Laredo (71k miles) with the slow acceleration problem. I am overseas in the military, so I'm trying to diagnose/fix the problem myself. Exact same problem as described above - it takes about 2000 rpm to get moving. I have the error code P 1762 showing (governor pressure sensor). Hoping someone with the same problem above can post how it was resolved?

I believe it was right around 40k miles I a problem where the trans was stuck in second gear. They replaced the governor and all has been fine since, although its shifting allot harder than it used to.

Anyone had any problems with hard starting, having to crank much longer than normal to get it to start. I can't seem to narrow the possibilities.

The hard starting is a o-ring in the fuel pump, good news it is serviceable. It's a cheap kit from chrysler, but you have to drop the tank and pull the pump. What happens when it sits the fuel pressure bleeds back to the tank (because or the bad o-ring) and you have to crank long to get the fuel the the injectors. If you turn you key on & off with out starting it the pump may run some, then when you engage the starter it should fire up:)

Have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, replaced all 4 brakes and rotors. Just recently replaced valve body, was not shifting out of 1st. Also replaced all 6 spark plugs, throttle body cleaned, fuel injectors cleaned, a few hoses replaced, transmission fluid replaced. Less than 45 days later, same problem, not shifting out of first till almost red line. I'm very disappointed, my jeep has 67,000 miles. I'm tempted to fix it and trade or sell it.

I am very frustrated with my 2001 Jeep Cherokee Laredo. I replaced the brakes and rotors twice at a cost of $1000 per visit. I finally had them replaced the last time at Midas brakes, who told me that Chrysler uses inferior thin rotors and they upgraded me to better ones and now there's no problem. However, like most Cherokee owners, I too now have Governor Pressure sensor issues which cause the transmission to not start in 1st gear. It causes a kicking, lugging movement and my car is also sluggish till over 40 MPH. The front seat broke off the rails at 10,000 miles, but was fixed under warranty. This car has cost me over $3600 in repairs not covered by warranty (Not to mentions problems that WERE covered. I have had to pay over $400 in rental cars while waiting for problems to be fixed. I have contacted Jeep to no satisfaction and feel they should recall all cars and replace rotors, governor pressure sensors as these issues are common with most Jeep Cherokees on the road, yet Chrysler refuses to admit the problem. This is my third Jeep and it will be my LAST. I'm fixing it this time and selling as fast as I can.

I have 2000 Grand Cherokee day 2 the engine light came on. Called the dealer they said it would go away.. it did, but three years later it still come one.

It came on the other day and it appears that I need to replace me trany sensors. I have serviced the trany at 30k, 50k, and 80k...apparently that did not help. Anyone have any idea how much its goig to cost?

I would not consider buying a jeep again.

I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd 4.0 2001. My engine malfunction light came on. I took it to a Jeep dealership and after four days they found that it needed a new valve body! 41K on the clock. It already has new uprated brakes on so I think this Jeep has to be sold as soon as I pay the very expensive garage bill. I always wanted a real Jeep, but they are no good! This Jeep has never even been off road! What can I say.
